For those interested in Deus Ex: Human Revolution, the director's cut has been released.

What's different?

Improved Flow

First you must understand that the Missing Link DLC and original game were treated as separate games in your steam library. However director cut combines them both into a single game so that it has better flow and feels more natural with the story. Generally, you could have missed the point where it was "logical" to play the DLC since its at a specific point in the story.

Multiple Games Displaying Instead of Merge in Steam Library

You will end up having 3 games in total because of this (assuming you have Deus Ex Human Revolution and the DLC before buying director cut.) It will display in your library with (Deus Ex Human Revolution, Deus Ex Human Revolution Director Cut, Deus Ex Human Revolution: Missing Link)

Price Discount on Steam

They will also slash the price of it from 20 to 10 if you own original game. If you own DLC on top of that it goes from 10 to 5 dollars.

Features

The Director's Cut has the following new features...
  1. New game+ (Only Augmentations carry over)
  2. Improved Textures
  3. Reworked Bosses
  4. 45 Minute Documentary
  5. Around 8 hours of commentary from Eidos Montreal
  6. Can have two energy cell recharge by default on all but the hardest difficulty
  7. Players can now use Jensen’s augmentation powers more freely
Reworked Bosses

Now remember that the reworked bosses is incredibly important for this DLC and the main selling point for many fans. The reason the Deus Ex Human Revolution bosses were unfaithful to the original source was that the game itself was outsourced to another company to create the boss battles so it didn't really follow as close to the other work done on the game as it should have. Leading to the bosses being more like a generic FPS instead of having multiple viable options based on how you developed your character.
Source: What's different in Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut? - Arqade

Note the Steam Discount: If you already have DE: HR and The Missing Link DLC, the Directors Cut is just 5 bucks; otherwise 19 buck for the complete game - which now includes the Missing Link DLC.

Anyway I thought I'd post for any fans of the game.

Peace

Hmm 5 bucks. Might be something worth looking at.

Players can now use Jensen’s augmentation powers more freely

I hope that means you don't have to be so economical in usage because one issue I did have with the game was that some of the best augmentations were under utilised since you could never power the bloody things.

Don't know. Be aware that that you have to start a new game when playing the director's cut. I will say the game starts out a bit differently and there's obviously a lot more story content and fill-ins. As I said in the other post, even though this is my third go around, I feel like I'm playing a new game because I don't know what coming around the corner now with the added story lines.

I'll also share that some of the added content/story comes from cut scenes, though some could be actual game play. I'll just hint that the director's cut doesn't start the way the original did.

Anyway I'm just starting so I've no way of knowing how it progresses from the original now; and bear in mind the Missing Link is now incorporated so it'll be interesting to see how it flows it into the game. I know where is should flow, but how is going to be interesting.

It'll only cost you five bucks if you've got the DLC as well.

I'm still in the area where you had to rescue the hostages. Anyway I'm calling it a night for mow. Besides It's going to be slow going here as I'm working on my new website, plus I'm still taking classes. I just figured I'd take a game break and ran into the new update to Deus Ex: HR.

Anyway hope you guys like it.

Later.

Starting new is no problem. i only recently finished and basically only started the Missing link content. I'd prefer the ML to be played as it was originally intended.

Got into this game, but never finished it. Looking forward to this cut as the reasons I stopped playing are addressed by this cut. Plus, it was $5, totally worth it.

In addition to the expanded story there are definitely some subtle play changes; additionally there are also some new gear items. So yeah, the upgrade to the director's cut is definitely worth it.

FYI

FYI, make sure you read your logs/pocket secretaries. I'm finding that if you don't actually read them by pressing tab immediately after getting them, or pressing tab, logs, access codes won't register when attempting to hack computers.

I've found that I've been hacking some computers that I actually had the code for; that by not reading the pocket secretaries, those codes didn't register. Kind of makes sense - you don't know what you have unless you read

Anyway I don't remember this being that way before, I think they auto registered once you picked up the secretaries, but I could be wrong. I could check with the old game but... At any rate read ;)

Went to play the game only to find there's a 2+gig patch out. Kind of vague on the details but from this post....

Among the issues addressed in this first patch:
  • AI-related bug fixes.
  • The bug causing disappearing personality dialogs in the Chase & Chet
    Wagner conversations has been fixed.
  • Miscellaneous fixes for a Sarif conversation when using pheromones.
  • Texture issues in Sarif HQ, Detroit, Hengsha and TYM have been fixed.
  • Texture tiling issues in Adam's apartment and other parts of Detroit have
    been fixed.
  • Issues relating to sounds becoming 'stuck' have been fixed.
  • A bug that could cause music to not play during the "walk and talk" intro
    sequence has been fixed.
  • Audio glitches between level loads have been fixed.
  • A bug causing the "incoming commentary" trigger to activate when the
commentary system is disabled has been fixed.
  • A bug causing music to stall when alt-tabbing has been fixed.
  • A setup dialogue allowing changes outside the game has been added.
  • Text-language selection option has been added/fixed.
  • Issues with language-switching not functioning properly have been addressed.
  • Some performance optimizations have been added.

This thread as well - Patch incoming Monday! :: Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut General Discussions

Anyway the only issue I've noticed thus far was a severe case of lag. Seems I wasn't the only one - Be warned about Deus Ex HR Director's Cut - Steam Users' Forums

Anyway hopefully this 2gig patch will at least fix that :D

If you'd play it sometime soon, I'd go ahead and get it now. I seriously doubt it will be marked down that much more than it is if you already own it. Plus, it includes the DLC which is nice, and it puts it in the proper place during the game at that. The DLC takes place about halfway through the game and if you have the game and the DLC separate you'd need to stop playing at a certain point, play the DLC and then go back to your game again. $10.00 is a great deal for it, $5.00 if you've already got the Missing Link DLC.

It won't hurt to wait if you're not going to get into it for a bit anyway though, and you might save a few bucks. Though, I doubt you'd save more than $5 by waiting at best.

I already finished the Director's Cut about a week ago. It was fun, and naturally it gets patched after I've finished. Fortunately I didn't run into any of those bugs, or rather I didn't notice them if I did.

Did you see the first post about the discount? - http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/310235-deus-ex-human-revolution-director-s-cut.html

And I personally thought it was worth the asking price on release day, let alone now. But... some people like Crysis where I'm not impressed so I get it :)

BTW the game does seem a bit longer with all the added content; plus you now have more options dealing with the bosses.

The game has been slow going for due to the fact I'm in school, plus, this would be my forth go around with the game so it kind of get's repetitive at times for me.

That said, there is an air of curiosity to see how the implemented the DLC into the new game. Haven't got to the part yet.

Yeah, the boss fights are much better. Way better actually. Especially if you have a build that is not about blasting your way through the game.

There were other tweaks made as well. More credits and more praxis points are available. Meaning you can get stronger faster and it makes the game less frustrating early on. It's actually possible to max out your stats on a single playthrough in the Director's Cut. Plus even if you don't there is a New Game Plus mode now as well. You only keep your augments though and must regain items and credits again.

It's not hard to figure out where the DLC is while playing through, but only because you lose your stuff. It seamlessly integrates with the game though and there is no outside loading screen or credits. Once you leave on the ship the DLC is the next scene after and once it's over you continue on with the game as if it was just another level in the main quest, which it now is in the Director's cut.

Yeah I noticed it's easier to gain praxis kits now. I tend to upgrade when I need and opened the upgrade tab to find I had something like 9 praxis kits

And now that you mentioned it, I seem to have a heck of a lot more coin. I really don't know where to spend it though as I've got a pretty strong character already.

Something else I notice last night was the graphics seemed to have gotten a lot better the update, even the in game sounds sound better. You notice that too, or is it me.

Definitely, improved fog, lighting, and higher rez textures were all part of the Director's Cut edition, meaning the game is indeed prettier than it was originally. They also upgraded the sound as well as you suspect.

The whole game got an overhaul, but the most noticeable upgrades are the Bosses being unbroken, the DLC integration, and the graphical upgrades.

Waterfox mostly.
Yeah I did notice the fog and lighting improvement, but for some odd reason it didn't click till the other day, after I posted about the 2gig patch. I guess I associated that patch with the improvements.

One thing I will say the patch did is improve overall performance. Was getting a severe case of lag before the update, after the update, the lag is gone.

BTW didn't have lag in the original games so it was definitely something in the Director's Cut release.
