Windows update KB2847077
causes Media Player 12.07601.17514 to lose track of all settings and libraries

Double clicking on a video media - opens a first time window that asks to use recommended or custom settings.

(this is catastrophic for me as I use Media Player's DLNA connectivity)

This has happened twice to me - first from a standard Windows Update (yesterday 12/11/2013) - I had to do a system restore to before the update, then figured out that it was KB2847077 - so updated everything else except for KB2847077 - my PC and media player were just fine after the restart.

Last night for some reason that update was installed again, from one of my vulnerability scans (despite me specifically hiding it in Windows Update) - so this morning my Media Player was messed up again - did another system restore before that module update, and everything is back to normal again.

Did you do any of the recommended fixes from Microsoft?
From post #1
Windows update KB2847077

Sorry I do not understand - I could not see any prerequisite to installing that update -
after installing the update - I found my Media Player had lost all of its settings.

Maybe I missed something -
Media player behaves fine before that update -
loses all settings and libraries after update
after system restore to before that update - Media Player works fine.

Is there any reason I need to update please?

If so and please point out which fixes I am supposed to have used before that update - I probably have missed it?

Thanks,

Vincent

Strange behavior indeed...Updated mine fine.

Double clicking on a video media - opens a first time window that asks to use recommended or custom settings.

When the pop-up windows opened the first time after updating to kb2847077, i did not used the recommended settings but custom settings and choose the same settings as i had, before that last kb update, after it had open the fine WMP keeping all as i like to be.

It shouldn't be different for you...might try again the custom settings?

Yours does sound like the way mine behaved -
since I had a lot vested in setting up my libraries settings and DLNA
seeing what appeared to be perhaps as if Media Player had reset itself -
I panicked?

Backed out of it and did a system restore and found my Media player was just as it was.

Yes, I probably will try again this time doing what you suggest of trying the custom settings -
the worst that can happen is that I may have to do another system restore.

Thanks for your helpful suggestion.

Yes, it looks like I panicked unnecessarily - thank you for the helpful instruction -
when I used custom settings I did not get an option to use any previous settings -
but I just went ahead knowing the worst case was another system restore -
but once I ran through the "set up" WMP continued to play the video I double clicked on
using the Switch to Library icon I can see that my library was the way I remembered it
and the streaming setting were the same.

So it looks like I am OK with Windows update KB2847077.

Thanks for your patience.
