Solved Lots of dead EXE files listed in registry

I have just uninstalled two programs "MediaInfo" and "MediaTab" with RevoUninstaller... (on a test rig)
- rebooted the PC
For interest sake I searched the registry for MediaTab and found the download path to MediaTab in ..

HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1412963132-789858852-2145561432-1000\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Compatibility Assistant\Persisted

... there are also
23 full names of download files (some files no longer exist)
5 installed apps/programs (still operational apps/programs)
3 installation/download EXE files on an external HDD
13 items with value prefix SIGN.MEDIA=XXXXX ... all refering to portable Revouninstaller I keep on an external HD


- rebooted PC to see if the list in the "Persisted" key is cleaned up.
- Apparantly not!

Can I delete the obsolete names/items manually. None of the EXE files are captured by CCleaner?

I would just leave them Russell they won't do harm and take minimal HDD space.
CCleaner is a non-aggressive registry cleaner, the only one I recommend. It won't remove anything important. Those keys would be re-created each time you run the portable programs.

Try using Uninstaller Pro

Advanced Uninstaller PRO Free Download - Program Uninstaller

It first runs the program's own uninstaller and then searches for any leftover registry entries and files/folders and gives you the option of deleting those or not. I've used it for several years now and never had a problem.

Note: if you uninstall a program and it's uninstaller tells you to reboot after it's done DO NOT do this - you need to run the Uninstaller Pro searches for registry entries and files first. After this rebooting is fine.

I was curious as to why portable Revouninstaller is listed in the PC registry.
"Because it just does!" I can live with that.

Not worth my worrying about strings in the registry.

I made the mistake of rebooting during middle of Revouninstall'ing -- ONCE! and only once !
