Hi,

I use a 120GB SSD to run my operating system from and use two internal hard disk drives one which hosts my personal files and the other is synchronized backup of my personal files.. I also have an external hard disk drive and a NAS unit.

Should I be defragging these disks as I've never defragged them before only my old 80GB HDD which I use to host my operating system from but since upgrading to an SSD I've stopped defragging completely ?

I would say yes; simply because after awhile of windows accessing the files when needed etc; the drives will get slower and slower due to file fragments being scattered all over. So yes, it is probably a good idea to defrag them like once a month.

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
Thanks for the fast response. I've been having issues with both of my internal disk drives disappearing from My Computer & Disk Management. It's becoming a frequent occurrence and only happens to the disk drive that I'm working in.

My E:/Personal Files disappeared offline whilst uncompressing a RAR file so I had to reboot to bring it back but since bringing it back it's acting slow. I ran some benchmark tests using HD TUne Pro and it seemed alright although updating MP3 metadata tags was extremely slow and when analyzing the disk for defragmentation it's disappeared again :(

Have you done a sfc /scannow?; if not i would do that; and also; do a dskchk /f which will hopefully fix any errors that are fixable and hopefully one of those 2 or both will resolve the issue. Also I would download, install, and run ccelaner to clean out the excess garbage in the registry Try these things for a start to see if they do anything for ya.

I meant chkdsk as opposed to dskchk

/r includes the functionality of /f but attempt to recover readable information from any bad sectors, if they exist

dont defrag SSDs.. they have a limited amount of read write cycles and youd be wasting them on such tasks.. youll never gain back The time wasted doing a defrag..
if youre really that worried about getting speed back regularly format windows, youll cut all the crap out and learn only to keep whats essential.
