"Error 1406: setup cannot write the value to the registry key" MSO '10

Hi,

I'm trying to install Microsoft Office 2010 but when it is installing I get the message "Error 1406: setup cannot write the value to the registry key."

I've tried everything to fix it. I've cleaned my registry and uninstalled all traces of Microsoft Office I already had on my computer. Yet I'm still getting this error. After 4 hours of trying to fix it I'm getting pretty confused as what it could be causing this problem.

I am an administrator on this computer, I've trying installing Office as an Admin and that didn't work either.

Any help would be appreciated. If I get this working, I'll report back!

SOLVED:

Go to Run (Win + R) and type regedit.

Then open/expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, then CLSID. Right click on CLSID and Delete it (yes, take the risk if you want). After that, my installation went fine.

You delete all in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID and also CLSID itself? Where did you find the trick? You deleted a lot of settings!

No, just delete CLSID. I found the solution on Yahoo Answers. My computer is running fine, I don't think I deleted anything important.

Deleting CLSID corrupted my system. Had to do a recovery. I don't recommend this.
