Random "Any colour" Screen Of Death

Hi everybody,

I'm having screens of deaths from a month or so and they can be red, gray, green, blue, brown... though in the error report after reseting it only reads "BlueScreeen". I've donde everything possible and it keeps happening, completely randomly. One day it keeps reseting all the time and another it just doesn't occur.

I'd thank you a lot if you helped me. I attach what I read in the posting instructions thread.

Hi Epic Failer.

A Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) is a type of issue, where the computer crashes, and a blue screen reports the error. Like this:

The issue you are having is seeming to not a BSOD issue (the zips dont contain any crash dump, too); but some sort of hardware issue. Have you dropped the laptop anytime?

Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark

Stress test the CPU.
Hardware - Stress Test With Prime95

Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .

Thank you for helping and welcoming me.

My laptop crashes and I sometimes get the typical BSOD with the error report. But other times it just crashes and turns to some colour and, after reseting I get a window that reads "Error: BlueScreen" with some info about it. What I did not notice is that CCleaner cleans out the dumps it generates. That may be the reason the zips contain no dump, since the diagnostic and debug tools cannot find any.

I didn't drop my laptop as it lays on the same place for months (I use it as a common PC, attached to a normal keyboard, screen, etc.).

I'll have it run the stress tests and post later with the results. I'll try to take a photo or video of these coloured screens if I've got enough time before my laptop reboots. I won't run CCleaner as well.

Don't run CCleaner until you get the problem fixed, or uncheck Memory Dumps and Windows Error Reporting in CCleaner. You'll need to wait until another BSOD happens.

Prime95 found nothing wrong but when I run FurMark it didn't work longer than a few seconds before getting one deep red fullscreen. I could not take a picture of it but it was as I said: just a screen with nothing on it in a dark red colour. Then it rebooted as usual and this time I was able to retrieve the dump. I attach it to my first post. I attach the error report I got when my laptop finished booting up.

I hope this can be useful for finding the problem. Thank you again.

Just a solid color on the screen, not text of any kind? If so it seems your graphics is failing in the laptop. Did you note what the temperature od the GPU was while running Furmark? Check you vents for dust clogs and blow/vacuum them out if dirty.

At this point of time it is safe to say that the GPU, 8600M GS is failing to render the necessary graphics. The GPU is failing. Depending on the age of the the laptop, it is tough to say at this point of time that the GPU is the one and only thing that is failing, but it failing undoubtedly.

You need to change it.

Also, dust allocation inside the laptop is most possible. A total cleaning is very necessary.

With one more point I will go with Britton30.

Yes, just a solid colour on the screen (colour varies, it may be red, blue, grey...). The temperature of the GPU while running Furmark never reached higher than usual because the test went for no more than 20 seconds or so before displaying the solid red screen I said and rebooting.

So you definitely think that all problems come from the GPU. I'll check that out if the laptop works properly with another GPU. Dust cannot be the cause of problems as I totally cleaned the laptop just three days ago.

OK, thank you very much. I'll try to find a suitable GPU for my laptop to replace the current one. I'll save this thread and tell if this works.
