Solved Black screen of death

This is an older machine but has some programs on it that I would hate to lose. It was my primary machine until I had to build the windows 10 machine. The problem is a few months old and I hadn't used it in a while so I don't know what caused the problem to start.

This machine dual boots Linux mint 21.3 and some time ago I installed solid state drives. I don't think that was the cause of this problem because it worked normally for some time after that. Another bit of information is that when running Linux the computer doesn't lock up.

The computer will sometimes freeze with whatever program I am using still on the screen. Mouse frozen and keyboard frozen. When I walk away from it long enough for the screen to blank (hours usually) the mouse or keyboard will not revive it. Only the reset button will work.

I downloaded dm log collector.exe and ran it after the last incident and uploaded the zip file it created (AMD-FX435..zip) to google drive. I think I shared it correctly and copied the link to my clipboard and pasted it into a text file.

Here is that link ...... AMD-FX4350.zip - Google Drive
Thanks in advance and I hope you can help, I really would hate to lose access to this machine.

Hi Sam

no bsod expert but, based on the error report from MSinfo

there appears to be a memory leak from your Bidefender AV, suggest you uninstall and re-install willing to bet its the cause
Handbrake is also giving you a bit of grief, is it upto date

Glary utilities -- not a fan of this type of program, if you have used the Tune-Up option reverse any changes
over the years you have used multiple Back-up utilities, i can still see startup entries for a number of them only use 1 remove the rest (could just be incomplete removal of them)

Thanks so much for your fast response
I uninstalled bit defender and handbrake, also uninstalled all backup programs except Macrium. I re-downloaded and saved to a folder the latest install programs for all of them. If the problem is fixed I could re-install some or all one at a time until I find the offender.

I have used Glary utilities on this PC since I built it. I couldn't begin to know the changes it may have made over the years. I have other PC's with that utility installed and have not noticed problems, certainly none so severe as to cause computer lockups.

The PC is running now so I will see if it locks up again. It usually only takes a few hours if it's going to act up. I will re-run dm log collector again if the problem recurs and post the generated zip file.

I will re-post as solved if the machine runs until tomorrow. I am curious where you saw evidence of a memory leak. I tried looking through those files and didn't see much I could understand. Anyway thanks so much, I will be back one way or the other.

The machine has been running for almost 2 days now so I guess bit defender was the culprit. Thanks, I guess you're more of an expert with crashes than you thought :).
