There's a thing though - since I used Reflect I have WmiPrvSE.exe running in the background all the time. I never had that before. I googled it and it says it's a process that's used in the enterprise environment - but I am a home user. What's that about? Can I disable it?

Yeah it is a process for monitoring programs, as Peter said. Do you have a CPU or Temp gadget running?

I have that process too. It is absolutely benign and does nothing. Just sits there.

No, I don't. I from time to time use a monitorung utility, but not all the time. And when I did use it before I haven't noticed that provessor running when I was done with hardware monitoring.

Why do you pick on this particular process. There are many processes that come an go. Do you make a ' Process Inspection' every morning after boot ?? LOL.

I think you don't realize that these processes don't run - they just sit there in case they are needed. And unless your PC has only 512MB of RAM, they are completely harmless. They just take a smidget of RAM away.

You worry far, far too much about unimportant little details. I have 130 processes "running" right now and they aren't causing me any problems. Just because they show up in the Task Manager doesn't mean they are actually using any resources (or enough to ever be noticeable). Most are just idling in standby but, if you kill enough of them, you will slow your computer down when it has to restart them when they are needed.

Processes are not the same as startup applications. Too many startup applications can cause a slowdown in boot time but, unless you are running a legacy machine with way too little RAM, it will not slow your computer down.

I have 6 GB of RAM. I work with music production so I need as much as possible available. Plus, personally I don't like unneeded stuff running on my PC. I agree with you both but it's my "caprice".

I don't have that service (WmiPrvSE.exe) running constantly on my PC.

I get a few instances (4 - 7) of WmiPrvSE.exe, if I run hardware monitors (e.g. Speccy or SIW.exe).

Minor point:
Speccy is still free
SIW is now paid only (unless you have an old version like me).

I seriously doubt your micromanaging is going to make any difference but, if it still worries you, you would be much better off just getting more RAM.

1. Don't worry about such very minor things, as has been stated a few times, it won't "hurt" anything at all.

2. Don't disable anything but set the startup option to Manual, that way an application will start it if need and will stop when finished.

I keep a "back catalogue" of old installers for this sort of situation (i.e. new versions losing features, programs swapping from free to paid, etc.).

Some companies also screw up their "improved" versions.

I think some programs may have too many features for their developers to keep track of.
Anecdotally, VLC regularly releases "improved" versions that are broken.
