Hi.

Something happened to my computer a while ago, that made me unable to see or change certain elements in Windows.

It seems that my DPI setting is too low so that the text and content of a window doesn't fit.
These windows cannot be resized or scrolled so I am at a stalemate.

I have tried changing the DPI setting from 100-150%. This does nothing at all for me.

Does anyone have a solution that does not involve a complete reinstall? Anything I can do with the registry to bring everything back to default?

Thanks in advance! :)

Welcome to the Seven Forums

To me looks like your DPI setting is too high which makes everything better.

Have you tried to change to a different theme in Personalization?

Hello Bongo, and thanks for you reply.

Yes, I have tried the Classic, Win7 Basic, High Contrast and some Aero themes.
None of them seem to fix the issue.
I have always been using a default Aero theme, only modified the colors, so nothing's changed here.

Also, how does having too high DPI make anything better than having too low DPI?

I'm sorry I didn't mean to say better I meant to say bigger :o

Have you try setting your DPI under 100%?

Do Option 2 of this tutorial http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html it will not harm any data or programs you have installed it will try to find and repair any corrupt system files that you have. You may need to do this up to 3 times with a reboot after each scan.

I went into the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG/Software/Fonts - LogPixels
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop -LogPixels
and set my DPI at 75, then rebooted.
This method worked to decrease the DPI below the
Windows standard, but I think that my problem is not entirely DPI related.

When increasing the DPI to 150% using this method, the box now fits.
But something is still way off, as my resolution now looks more like 800x600 rather than 1920x1080 that I'm using. I still have this weird bold font in any dialog box.

I will now try this tutorial to see if it helps.

Btw, thanks alot for helping me Jerry. At least now I am getting somewhere after all this time. You're a champ :D

Edit: I tried SFC /SCANNOW three times with a reboot in between each scan.
All results were empty.

Atm I am downloading the System Update Readiness Tool (Win7 SP1 x64).
After that, I will perform another scan, but I'm guessing that this won't do anything either.

Actually, I am starting to wonder if this might be a GFX related problem.
Gonna try rollback/reinstall GFX driver after the scans. Will report back in case anyone else encounters the same issue :)

Tried SFC /SCANNOW several times, still does nothing.
I installed the Readiness Tool, rebooted, scanned, rebooted, scanned. Still nothing.

Tried a clean install of the lastest NVIDIA driver, and that did not help either.

I am really drawing a blank here :(
