Defective Psu? Bearly 2 months old

Hi... a while ago we got a power problem in the house. The power turned on and off continuesly for a while and then the power shut off completely, My computer was not on but after this incident my Psu has given a lot of coilwhine and the computer is starting Very Very weirdly
when starting the computer the computer lights flashes then it shuts off, about 1-2 seconds after the computer starts,
While not stressing the system i have a ton of coil whine but the coilwhine dissapears when the system is stressed enough..
The Motherboard voltage readings says:
CPU Core_~1.2-1.4V
MEM Controller_1.476V
+3.3V_2.028V
+5V_3.367V
+12V_7.824V
-12V_(4.704V)
-5V HIGH THRESHOLD_2.742V
CMOS BATTERY_1.596V

When stressing the 4.2Ghz FX8350 to 100% the computer bluescreens and restarts
and Prime 95 says error on 2 cores

Interesting ... I keep my PC connected to a backup UPS. Fast cycling of power is never a good thing.

All your volts are ubder specs, send it back to the manufacturer, don`t mention the power outage.

AddRam is correct. ATX standards are +/- 5%. Yours are well below that. RMA it. If the +12V is really 7.8V, I'm surprised the computer will even start.

get yourself a surge protect extension lead. it will take any nasties the power companies throw down the line at you.

Ok. Thanks... This is such my luck... But i will talk to the support from the place i bought it.
So i should not mention that the house power messed up, only that the power output from the psu is faulty?

Oh Btw. I have been getting some weird thing sometimes where the computer just totaly freezes and i have to force restart, But it only happens after like a minute after start, not when stressing the computer

Yep, if you tell them that, then they`ll ask you if you had a surge protector connected. Best not to mention it at all, just play dumb.

Just mention the problems you`re having, and that`s why you are calling or that`s why you`re there to have them look at it.

And please get a GOOD Surge Protector, if you don`t have one.

Normally, I would consider leaving out details like that unethical. However, if the wonky house power messed up the PSU so easily, it was already on its last legs. Support may use the wonky power as an excuse to weasel out of the warranty.

I do strongly recommend get a good surge and spike arrestor or UPS.

I think a lot of people think that when their computer has been shut down the power to it has been switched off. This is just not the case as the PSU is still connected to the mains power & any surging or spiking can easily damage it. In fact a really bad one like a lightning strike near to your power line can also damage the motherboard as well.

After shutting down I always turn the power off to my computer both at the UPS & the main wall switch. I also use a surge protector as well & if the are thunder storms about I unplug the computer & UPS from the wall outlet.

No of course I don't, but I do take sensible precautions to try & reduce damage when possible.

A good reason for having at least a basic APU. A 50-80 dollar investment can save a lot of grief.
