Hackers Used Flaw In Internet Explorer In New Attacks



...Security firm FireEye Inc discovered the attacks against IE 10 this week, saying that hundreds or thousands of machines have been infected. It said the culprits broke into the website of U.S. Veterans of Foreign Wars and inserted a link that redirected visitors to a malicious web page that contained the infectious code in Adobe Systems Inc's Flash software.


...A Microsoft spokesman said the company was aware of the "targeted" attacks and was investigating. "We will take action to help protect customers," said spokesman Scott Whiteaker.

It affects IE9 also. And on a side note, NONE of AV products caught the hacked code.

The feature Trusted sites zone should be removed from Internet explorer completely there really is no such animal,

Perhaps, but I only have two and one is my surveillance processor (cameras).

Unfortunately most people do not know how to use the trusted zones with common sense,
Yours is an example of an exception of using common sense

Adding explicit sites or common sites like Yahoo... as a trusted site as a bad example of what to add to the trusted zone,
Or as far as this article is concerned any .gov site

As much of a fan of Microsoft that I am, they should just scrap the whole Internet Browser.
Only reason why I use it is basically to either get Chrome or to see my website designs,

Pretty much only uses I see in it too be fair.

All browsers have security flaws. I would not pick Chrome as a secure alternative to IE. Like my forum system specs say, I use Pale Moon, IE and Chrome. I watch for security related news for all three browsers.

Chrome has had a huge security flaw for a long time. It lets a website start an instance of Chrome using the system integrity level and then start an app at that same level. That was a huge flaw.

Given the recent security improvements for IE11, I use it for important stuff.

Also, until Chrome makes a 64bit version, it cannot make use of the extra security that 64bit apps bring to the table.


There are things that IE can do that no other browsers can do - like have OS shortcuts (complete with context menus) as favorites. Albeit, IE11 did barf the favorites bar sort order for OS shortcuts.

I've been using Firefox; government sites are hacked into the most I can imagine.
