I'd like to remove the UAC shield on my desktop icons without removing the UAC functionality.

Is there a way to replace the shield image with a transparent ico file, so that the shield would effectively disappear?

If not, is there any other way to remove this shield without altering UAC functionality?

Thanks. I reviewed this solution prior to posting. The elevated shortcuts solution removes the shield icon, and also removes the UAC function on the subject program. I am looking for a way to remove the shield image without removing UAC function.

Do you know if the shield image is an ico file that can be replaced with a transparent ico file?

I have found another link which may resolve your issue:
