Windows 7 hangs up trying to share folder on LAN

I'm trying to share a large folder of music files that is about 100gb on my home network. I set the sharing for "Everyone" read/ write, like all the other files that I share on my LAN. I have some very large movie folders that the computer has no problem sharing with other computers on the network and homegroup, but this particular music folder has the computer hanging up when i hit the share button after selecting "everyone".. The window that shows that it is processing the shared folder comes up but it just sits there with the progress bar running back and forth. It did this overnight. I have tried to set all of the security parameters the same as other folders also, but nothing seems to work.

Is there something else that I need to do to share this folder?

Do you have the network set to use WMP to share media files? I know on my systems it wasn't a large folder that hung it up. But that mobsync.exe tried to examine every file on my system to see if it should be in the WMP media library and shared etc.. It totally bogged my HD doing this stuff. It was at the point I ran a program killer just to kill mobsync.exe and wmp every time they came up.

Edit: What I describe was on Vista. W7 and later may not be as bad. But I still set my notworks to not share media files using WMP.

Yes, the computer that contains the folder of music files that I want to share has all of the music files indexed in WMP 12. I have WMP 12 set to share media files also. so you're saying that I should turn of the media file sharing in WMP 12? or is it done somewhere else?

In the network settings there's file and printer sharing.. and there's media sharing using WMP. I just share the media files as ordinary files. The WMP library has a way of constantly going through every file on your system to see if it's a media file for the library. It totally hogs the HD for one thing.

The issue here is that the comp will not share one specific folder. It will share all others properly. It is a very large folder with lots of music files in it and when I go to set the permissions, the window will pop up like the permissions are being set, but it just sits there with the green progress bar running back and forth.

I tried turning off the WMP sharing also and that did not fix it. the issue is that when i go into the library in WMP to manage music, the computer sees the folder on the other computer, but when i go to choose it to add to the library, the "Cannot access folder..." error message pops up. i have several folders from the computer that are being shared and i have no problem adding them to this library. its just this particular folder that won't share.

It likely hasn't been tested with 100 GB worth of music. It's like if you try to drag and drop copy Windows.old folder with Explorer. It will pop up a box counting the files to be copied, but never get to the copying. Some things command line is just more robust. Or look for music library software that is made to handle TB sized libraries.
