TEST -Update 7 installation media

SIW2, I wanted to thank you for this wonderful program, code, tutorial, technique...

This went without a hitch - processed the updates (79), added a few packages, adjusted the registry (which I had commented out the Hibernate), unmounted, created iso, burned iso - done! I plan to use this to do a clean install on our Acer (once somebody gets media moved to the NAS). I've actually only done a couple of Linux OS installs, and this will be my first Win OS attempt.

I truly appreciate your efforts - and I look forward to learning from your other posts.

Depends on the hardware. On a Core i5 w/8 gb RAM it installs in 15 minutes. I think 20 is about the average. The updates don't add much time.

But it does take time to do the slipstream which makes it best for one who does installs pretty regularly. I got enough grumbling on my Clean Reinstall OEM tutorial that I added this caveat:
• You can slipstream the latest Updates into the installer ISO to save at least an hour's Updating after install using Update 7 installation media.
However it may take an hour to do this so consider how much you want this.

Hi SIW2,

thanks for sharing this wonderful helpful tool!
The process is easy, clean, takes a bit time to complete and works out of the box!

But... ;)
Are there any news regarding slipping .net4.5 and IE11 with it?

Cheers,

Michael

IE11 bollixes Win7 gadgets which are popular with millions of users. I spoke with a member of IE team at Global MVP Summit and they don't intend to fix it because they claim they've already warned that gadgets are a security risk. But they won't disable them because they're wildly popular - just like Windows 7 they'd also like to engineer out. I see this a test incursion requiring pushback and will challenge it in Nov Summit IE sessions.

The solution is to roll back to IE10 and NOT install IE11 if you want gadgets. There are fixes on here but they seem to be trying to engineer those out too. http://www.sevenforums.com/gadgets/...-gadgets-what-alternatives-3.html#post2720077

Si, perhaps you can slip the fix in if IE11 must be included.

You would need to install the os, install SP1, sysprep and capture.

The other way is to patch SP1 in. Would be different for each language and edition, though. If everybody had the en-us ultimate, that wouldn't be too bad, but not practical with all the different possibilities.

I just chose it in Downloader and it downloaded. What prevents it from being added to ISO?

It is an .exe. Cant put it in with dism . Only cab and msu files.

Some smaller exe files , can have the cab extracted as a workaround ( that is how I do IE ). Doesn't work with the service pack. :(

Thanks in advance.

I notice when I run the 3/11 Updates to add to my x64Updates folder it only adds the new ones and doesn't overwrite the others. This saves a lot of time. Nice program.

Now I am adding Pro to my x64 Home Premium/Ultimate (so far) updated files. Will adding the new Updates affect the HP and Ultimate I've already updated but which are not updated yet to 3/11? Any easier way to do this than starting over?

I get this when adding. I think it's because I edited out the reg changes awhile back, correct?

Can I still just replace the old install.wim on flash stick with the newest one after these updates?

What size ISO are people ending up with. I did Home Premium x64 originally 3.09gig. Added all updates suggested IE11 and Silverlight and its grown to 3.82gig. Seems much bigger than I expected, going to try an install now.

Sorry for the late reply. @Greg, yes that is fine. It is looking for reg files you have removed/renamed. No problem.

Yes, you can just use the newly updated install.wim on your flash drive. None of the other files have been altered, just install.wim.

Don't tel me, tell steven455.

It depends what you count as updates, if you are only interested in satisfying WU, or if you want to include all 500+ listed by komm and others.
