I think it does need to be learned in schools.
I need to figure it out too sometime... Though I will have to.

I don't see anything wrong with introducing and using both types of OS. Learning Linux will help with programming, Windows with business.

I almost disagree almost completely. Almost all PCs do almost all the same things, and almost all programs work almost all the same way.

Changes affect complexity upward for techs and downward for users.

My point was relating to the GUI, and the function of the topical OS.
The inner kernal does not matter.

I am talking about people like my mom who are computer illiterate, who can only check email, browse the web and do a few other things like play games or work a few specific programs.

Come to think of it, they may adapt the easiest.

But the more average person, who knows how to use MS fairly well, (like me) has more problems. The .exes do not run on Linux, almost all of the programs developed only work in windows (games anyone?) and WINE does not work for all of them.

P.S. Also, installing drivers..... Pain.
Having to use the terminal would drive some beyond being able to use it.

Yeah, I think it would. Especially if Linux remained free. I would switch.

Really the only reason I still use Windows as my main OS is because of games and familiarity.
