Where to purchase Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium retail or upgrade?

I have somebody who was asking me for help upgrading their Vista system to Windows 7. They bought the OEM copy of Windows 7 and instead need a copy of Windows 7 64-bit home premium upgrade. They intend to return it as luckily the packaging hadn't been opened.

The question is, where can I purchase a legitimate copy of Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium, either Upgrade or Retail, whatever will allow the easy upgrade option instead of overwriting everything?

A link to a reputable site or mail-order business that ships to the Chicago Suburbs would be appreciated.

Oh, the computer in question does NOT have a touch screen, and Windows 8 is probably unsuitable for that system. It might work OK if she bought a touch screen, but does not want one. She's just interested in Windows 7 Home Premium.

All I can find on Amazon and Tiger Direct are OEM copies.

Personally I'd go for a clean install as opposed to upgrading from Vista.

The OEM disks are probably the only thing you will find. Microsoft is pushing Windows 8 so they are making Windows 7 hard to find. There is nothing wrong with an OEM copy. It is the same as a Retail copy. It does tie the Windows to that one computer and does not allow it to be transferred to another computer should you buy a new one. With the OEM copy you will have to do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html but that is a better option anyway. We are here to help you with the installation.

An oem disc and a retail disc are exactly the same thing, use the oem disc to do your install.

I was under the impression that you could not do an upgrade install with the OEM, and that is the best solution here. Doing a clean install will take more than a weekend due to a slow internet connection and the amount of stuff that needs to be re-downloaded and reinstalled. She didn't keep and save the installers. Her internet connection isn't much better than dial-up. I think it's only 256Kbits. It didn't seem to get any better than 16K/sec, which is about 4X faster than dial-up. It took nearly an hour and a half to download a 124mb driver installer from Dell's support site that the upgrade assistant said needed to be updated before installing Windows 7. Anyways, it's a moot point. I got an answer on Microsoft's forum before the first response to this one. I spent the rest of the day performing the upgrade. That is correct. With the OEM, you must do a Clean Install.

It's mostly sorted out. I got an e-mail that there are a few glitches with a few programs that need to be updated or reinstalled, but that is to be expected. However, due to both of us having plans for Easter, it's going to have to wait until another day to work on it. The main problem is the slow internet connection makes downloading updates and installers a chore. It just takes time. Brings back memories from the late '90s and the very early 2000's when I was using dial-up. I hadn't realized how much I take my high speed broadband connection for granted. I started with down speeds of 200K/sec+ and it has only increased.
