Solved Unable to see all networked items through 2 routers

Hi

I have managed to get my network set-up so I finally have decent wifi coverage throughout the whole house, but I've noticed that when on my desktop I cannot see all my networked items.

Here is my network set-up:

Thomson Gateway Router acting as modem with desktop connected via ethernet (D-Link Powerline connectors).

This is connected to a D-Link DIR-655 via ethernet which is acting as a bridge, has TV, PS3 & TiVO connected & also manages the wifi as it is far better than the Thomson.

I've been having a few niggles surrounding iPhone sync over wifi, and I've noticed that when I look in my networked devices on my desktop I don't see the D-Link router.

Not sure if either of these are connected, or whether there is a decent reason why my PC cannot see the router, yet can see the TV & PS3.

Any thoughts?

From what you are saying DHCP isn't completely disabled on one of those units

You would need to either disable DHCP on the Thomson or the D-Link 655. Only one of those should be handing out IP's in the proper subnet.

You can check the subnet by looking at the ipconfig/all, if the D-Link is handling the DHCP the gateway will be 192.168.0.1 and the IP's of the clients connected to the D-Link will be in the same subnet while the clients connected to the TP will be in the TP's subnet.

Also it's important to plug into the LAN port on the secondary router, not the WAN or Internet port. It depends on which router you want for DHCP "I can only guess".

I believe the Thomson, because it's a modem/router combo unit, may need to be put into bridge mode so as to bypass the router's DHCP functionality.

If you can do that use the 655 for it's better router functionality.
