Hello,
So recently my on board audio stopped working for no reason and it doesn't look like it's been fried the board is only 2 months old. Yes I have tried device manager etc it's nothing to do with windows now I inserted a sound I then got my sound back that was great for a few days now Tonight I cleaned up the wiring to make it neater then took out the card to see if the on board would go still nothing so I disabled the on board re installed the card and Now the card is doing the same thing? I tried everything device manager, driver re install etc
.
With going on :(

Is the board just faulty and evil to blow a good card or why isn't the card processing sound now?

I am over it is having a working PC a lot to ask for its been causing me a lot of issues since I got it.

I do anything for anyone who can fix my issue

There are many ASRock FM2A88X motherboards, what is the exact model that you have?

With the on-board audio enabled, what is the status in the Device Manager? Does it show working OK or does it have an error code?

In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the Realtek sound and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound.

Then go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel/Playback. The "Speakers" should be set as the default playback device.

I will try that in about 20 minutes as it's 7am here starting to get up.
If this doesn't work what else can I do?

Edit: Just tried that didn't work :/

The card is only 4 days old

Thanks for your help

If all the slots are "blown" the only recourse is to get the motherboard replaced. Its still under warranty so contact ASRock. However, they are not the best at resolving issues. I had a new ASRock motherboard with two faulty memory slots and they would only provide a replacement for $50 (US), not free like they should have. I won't be buying any more ASRock motherboards.

I have two other systems I've built in the last two years. One is a Gigabyte and the other an ASUS. Both of these are solid as a "rock"... I have the replacement ASRock board still in the box and won't use it unless one of the others craps out.

The Gigabyte is my recording studio PC.

Ok here's an update:
For some reason the when I put A audio card in it will work then when i press the reset button the system won't detect it I then have to press the reset button several times before I get it to work.

On a good note when I put A video card in (Nvidia GeForce 650Ti) in the PCI-e slot that seems to work perfectly fine with no faults at all so I find this odd how it won't play the sound card probably but runs a graphics card fine without any faults.

Could it be the card? (I got a cheap $30 one today)
Intex cmi8738 i also notice that there is three pins in the slot left out since the card is a SOU-PCI-PCI 4 could this just be the card then?

i'm actually confused whether the board is alright and the card doesn't work or the board is faulty?
How can I tell the stupid machine already sent me broke today because I bough $60 LED strips should of waited but couldn't revisit lol..

I just want a working computer and all these issues to be done with.

Thanks!

If the sound card is a PCI and NOT a PCIe slot card, that can be a problem. Most modern motherboards do not have a pure PCI bus but instead have a "bridged" PCI slot from the PCIe bus. Many PCI cards will not work or work correctly with a bridged type PCI slot.

That you have to reset the PC several times, could be because of the PCI problem or it could be a BIOS problem or some other hardware issue. The "other" potential hardware issues could also be why the on-board audio does not work.

I don't usually recommend flashing the BIOS but in this case it is something to consider - upgrading the BIOS.

The bios was only upgraded a few days ago so that's up to date..
Not sure how it happened to a 2 mth old board :(

What could be the problem I don't see it being a brand new bored though.

I thought all PCI are under the same controller

In boards that have "bridged" PCI slot(s) they are under the PCIe bus/controller. I have a recording studio and this is a major issue on the recording forums of users that have older PCI audio cards. Many would like to upgrade but there are very few new motherboards with true PCI slots.

The ASRock specs show 3 PCI slots. With 3 PCI slots, you may be lucky and this board has true PCI.

If you haven't done it, do a BIOS reset and see what happens. I think there is a BIOS reset button on the motherboard. If not, with the PC powered off, remove the CR2032 CMOS backup battery for at least 10 minutes and then reinstall the battery and the BIOS will be reset.

More info that may and thanks for your help so far!
I have done a bios upgrade and reset

My sound chip on my board was blew for no reason bad thing only being a 2 month old bored and I am not waiting days to rma it and for me to get it back
anyway I managed to pick up a old sound card (not sure on the model) that worked fine for three days then stopped outputing audio, so I bought a sound card (intex cmi878) that did not have the 64 bit wndows 7 dirvers and everytime I turned the computer off the machine would not detect the card I then I have to press the reset button or turn the system a few times to get the card to be recognized again and I could not also find the drivers for the OS.

I checked at the back of the cards box and it says 32 bit pci bus master.
What does the mean could that be that the card was not compatible for the stystem or could it be the motherboard?
I tried a nvidia video card in the PCI-E slot and the card works fine with no faults. The sound card was using the PCI slot and I tried every PCI slot.

My Motherboard: asrock fm2a88x extreme4+
Thanks!

I would suspect the sound card. You can get a PCIe sound card relatively inexpensive. Before going after a new motherboard, I would first try a PCIe sound card (that is Windows 7 compatible and has drivers). But it somewhere that you can return it, if it does not work. If after trying the PCIe sound card you still have problems then consider a different motherboard.

Ultimately if it is the motherboard and you don't want the downtime while getting warranty repair from ASRock, I would get another motherboard and after swapping the motherboards, I would then send the ASRock back for warranty repair and keep it on hand for a backup.

One other thought. What is the size of the power supply and is it a "good quality" power supply? Inexpensive power supplies tend to be overrated and have poor power regulation. If the power supply was underrated (power) that could cause problems with added cards.
