Thanks for the info. I've actually been using an add on (New Tab Homepage) but what's the point in using an add? Your technique works just as well!

Its actually worst then first announced. They will track you and offer adds for what they think you want.(hand picked partners)

"A lot of our community found the language hard to decipher, and worried that we were going to turn Firefox into a mess of logos sold to the highest bidder; without user control, without user benefit," said Johnathan Nightingale, Mozilla's vice president of Firefox, in a blog post. "That's not going to happen. That's not who we are at Mozilla."

But the new-tab page still could carry sponsored content from "hand-picked partners," and Mozilla plans to experiment with that in the future.

goto preference:

change to:

moot point as they've reconsidered their poor idea (tho they're still messing around with australis and trying to make firefox a chrome clone)

I use FF on on monitor at work - there's always the 'tic-tac-toe' icon in the upper right as a toggle.
