Replacement motherboard won't detect battery!

I've had a mountain of problems with this laptop, most recently it ended up in an infinite reboot loop.

I gave up trying to fix it myself so I took it to a repair shop, where I was told the connector on the motherboard for the LCD screen had broken and the board would need replacing. I'd already ordered a replacement motherboard by this point, and I've now installed it to the system.

Everything else seems to be ok, but the laptop will now not detect the OEM battery, which still charges from the old motherboard, and gives power to the old board when disconnected from AC.

I don't believe that this could be another fault with the new motherboard, there is no way in hell I could be that unlucky with the amount of problems I've already had up to this point.

Any ideas?

Did you miss connecting something when you put it all back together? Some of those ribbon connectors can be awfully tricky to get together. It's possible that one isn't seated properly.

I've swapped the old motherboard in for the new one several times and each time the old one has detected / charged the battery (lit up the charge LED) where the new one hasn't. On this particular motherboard there are only 3 or 4 ribbon connectors, all of which are for either the LCD, keyboard, mouse, etc.

I mean no disrespect but I have been known to forget something I was positive I did. Maybe a recheck of connections is in order.
I have spent an hour searching for why my PC would boot, I had not flipped the PSU switch on.

Otherwise I suspect you do have another bad board.

There is only one connection on the board that is relevant to this problem, and that is the connection between the battery and the board. I also mean no disrespect but with only one connection, I don't need to double check anything, as it would be incredibly stupid to make such a mistake when the only thing concerned is placing the battery where it needs to be, and pressing the power button.
Some people have suggested flashing the BIOS on the new board, which I have done and had no better result.
I just can't understand how I can have yet another fault with this laptop from a brand new board

I found the root of the problem!
after thorough investigation of the base of the motherboard, (checking for the smell of burnt components) I found this MICROSCOPIC on / off switch..
Never in my life have I seen this on ANY other laptop motherboard I've stripped

Newer version of the board maybe? Odd it would be there, it could be a disable/enable switch for something. Good sleuth work.
