I just upgraded from Vista to 7. I tried to connect my S4 to my laptop and am encountering this issue (see picture)

It worked fine in vista and i have also installed Samsung KIES to see if the drivers would be accessed but no luck so far.

Any idea how to resolve this?

Thanks for your suggestion but i already fixed it.

I just needed to install the old version of Kies, think the drivers are in there, after that everything was installed and ok. Kies then wanted to update itself to Kies 3

I don't use Kies for my S4.

I use PdaNet+ and FoxFI, which includes drivers to support the S4 in a standard Windows Explorer way (including both internal storage and external SD storage).

This combination of software supports both free WiFi Hotspot by the S4 (i.e. using native Android capability, without requiring the $20/month Sprint wants to activate this feature in the phone) as well as "USB tether" (which allows the S4 to provide internet access to a USB-connected laptop).

thanks for letting me know dsperber. I uninstall KIES right after and everything works fine and i running very light (with respect to having any kind of phone software on my pc). I use the Regular windows explorer to upload/download anything in need to and from my phone. Seems to work fine for me

However, i do have a question. I am also from California and have service with Sprint. I am currently working in Asia and upon my return will re-active my sprint number with my S4 Gt-i9500 that i purchased in Asia. Since the phone is "unlocked" can i still get free hot spot service off my android platform like how i do so here?

Appreciate and feed back you can give me.

Really can't say. I don't pay Sprint for WiFi, so I don't know if it's only available from the phone for as long as you pay Sprint or if it's really an "unlocking" feature, which once unlocked can't be re-locked by Sprint (if you stop paying them).

But again, according to the PdaNet+ site their technology is based simply on built-in Android WiFi capability (which is probably how the Sprint monthly for-fee service works as well).

Same with the "USB tether" capability, where the phone acts as a "wired modem" for the laptop, and which doesn't use WiFi. It's standard Android features which were exploited by the PdaNet+ software (and related drivers provided to be installed in the laptop, i.e. for the "USB modem" which is how the phone then looks to the PC).

Sorry, I can't really provide any more info, as I've never paid Sprint for their WiFi service.
