What don't you like about Windows 7?

Status
Not open for further replies.
What I don't like...

1. It still isn't Linux, therefore I have to use windows to game.
2. Consumes a LOT of RAM even at IDLE.
3. Sluggish with 4 GB of RAM.
4. Looks like a Vista SP
5. Multiple BSOD's spanning from doing nothing to gaming and making DVD's.

I don't wanna get banned... but those are some of my cons thus far.

1. Thank goodness for that.

2. Does not.

3. Again, not.

4. I didn't know service packs had looks.

5. Never had a one since using beta 7000 in January.

If you're experiencing all that, sounds to me like you're not doing something right.

His BSODs are likely occuring from a faulty driver...not Windows 7's fault

Also the RAM usage on idle...there is a difference between RAM Used and RAM cached. Is your looking at your RAM cached and it is high than that is natural...it is a product of Superfetch's design (a fantastic one at that). That cached RAM will be allotted to an app that needs it immediately...

Having difficulty with the OS is certainly not a bannable offense. Nonsense.

Consumes a LOT of RAM at IDLE is a learning curve that we will explore later. Sluggish can be addressed. Looks like a Vista SP - yes, many will grant you that. Multiple BSODs can be addressed.

Two weeks ago, you abandoned a hijacked thread where you were going to generate a BSOD/dump file. Today, you finally came back. Good move starting your own thread- you will receive focused professional attention if you conduct yourself maturely. H2SO4 - a hard core professional engineer will probably be helping you with your thread as soon as the time zones catch up with. In the meantime, ZigZag has identified a potential candidate for your frequent BSOD problem - Nero.

All of the professionals reviewing your case (and there are more of us reviewing it than you know) are aware of the challenges you are experiencing and your reaction to them. Stick to the facts and we should have you running ship shape in no time.

You would not be here if you were not interested in making this work. Be patient. It has only been two hours or so since you properly presented an addressable concern.

side by side on my setup, see pic (in reply to airbot,)

My drivers are up to date as of this post.

Antman - I'm not in any hurry to get this rig up and running like a champ. Just baffled that even a few simple things can trigger that beloved screen :D Today is one of the first times I've used it since the previous BSOD's. And since the other previous posts from a while back, I haven't been able to replicate the same BSOD (nothing was updated mind you). I'll be sure to back it up with a dump file should I trigger the BSOD. Today's BSOD, just so happens to be the same day I bought installed Nero 9.

I understand. It only takes one thing to generate the screen we love to hate. I have to retire for the night.

We used to have a really cool dog named Kemo. He was awesome - before he got carried five miles away by a tornado. He wasn't quite the same when he came back. I started calling him KemoTherapy.

True story.

No point to be made there.

That screen makes me go ape... well I can't say the next word but you know how the saying goes. But it makes me that much more infuriated when you can't replicate the problem when you want or need it to. Sure enough, soon as I disable "auto restart", it won't do it!

Thanks for the help and understanding thus far. Price to pay I guess for being somewhat of a power user!

Going back to this...
Two weeks ago, you abandoned a hijacked thread where you were going to generate a BSOD/dump file.
Other forums I'm used to posting at... their staff members want you to use the search function, rather than just starting a new post... regardless if it was 100% relevant or not :(

Sorry, I thought the Left screen was just another downloaded 'system monitor' for Win 7,
not paying any attention to any numbers in either picture. :o

Since both systems are 'at idle', the only valid point of reference for the w7 numbers
would be the extreme right-hand side of the graphs, with no numeric readout.
The numeric readouts are only in the Left pic.

However, for idle activity in the Left pic, the sum total of the 3 cores indicate 16.0%.
The average of 16% for 3 cores is 5.3%

The Right-hand pic of w7 indicates 'CPU usage' at 3%.
Not being familiar with this utility, I would assume it means the average, amongst the 3 cores...
Worst interpretation would be 3 x 3% each = 9% total.

...it's probably best to keep it related huh?
If you want the pics, you can PM me. I'm not going to "advertise" in a thread of the differences anymore than I already have.
1. The Forum is "Windows 7". The 'thread' is "What don't you like..."
I believe my postings regard 'discussing' the Microsoft product.

2. If I wanted the pics, I'd DL them from the post, and not overload the PM system.

3. Since the Left pic has already been defined, then there's no reason to "advertise differences" any more than you already have "advertised the differences".

Did you use this thread to explain "What you don't like about Windows 7" or to "advertise differences"? ;)

Just want to ask WHY.....

I am having problems working out how to navigate WIN7.

I have been a MS user from DOS 3.1 and have mastered all including Vista Ult 64bit went there 8 months ago.

Each upgrade new OS version has affordered the user to go back and use the Classicinterface, YET MS this time have closed the door.

I personally like and use the classic interface.

This NEW MAC style leaver me LOST.

is ther a mind map or map that shows how to navigate and find lost misplaced icons and interfaces.

I have just spent 7 hours and am NO further ahead except to say If I dont get answers from MS (HELP) I and 100 clients (they drive my business) and have requested I find out how to reclain some resemblance to the classic interface or an alternative O/S and applications we will all be gone, NO longer MS pawns.

hi carl and welcome to seven forums,

what exactly can't you find? there is a search box on your start menu, and another in the control panel.

what's the point of microsoft developing a new operating system if it's going to be exactly the same as previous offerings?

if you prefer xp or vista, my suggestion is to use them.

Sorry to hear of your problems, and I appreciate the leaning curve problems that businesses face - you just need to get on with your work :)

The start menu search is a good help to finding those applications and functions which appear to have disappeared - either enter the program name or function and the system will present a list of relevant options

If you have problems with specifics it would be better to start a thread where your concerns may be addressed in more detail.

Your pain is shared. There are a number of posts here about the "classic menu" and how to get it, or something that looks like it, back.

Check out these links:

Yet another way to get there

I know that any new OS presents a learning curve, and the experts here have tried to make it easier by posting a series of tutorials. Once you take a look at the links above, go over to http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/ and check some of them.

Windows 7 is a real step up from past Microsoft operating systems, and once you play with it a bit I feel sure you'll enjoy it.

Welcome to Seven Forums. :)

There are applications that automate the task of changing the log-on screen - although the manual method is always best as you understand what can go wrong if you do have issues, thus making troubleshooting easier
