What don't you like about Windows 7?

Serriously, though, reviewing this thread, why do I get the impression that a lot of the "complaints" are about things that have or never would seriously matter?

Post about what actually makes the OS unusable, rather that about this or that being the wrong color, the wrong size, its blue I want it green, its green why isn't it blue....

The people on here are the best help you will get, short of MS themselves. Be glad thy're this patient with you.

I agree with almost everything you said, except for the statement quoted above. "Official" MS help is frequently nowhere near the level of this forum

I think the whole point of this thread is to allow users to bemoan the presence, or the lack, of those little stupid things that, as you say, do not really matter

The main forums are available for the serious issues but no OS is perfect - It would cut my work opportunities drastically if they were, but therse always the user errors -

Even those who love windows 7 may have a minor thing that bugs them out of all proportion this thread gives them a chance to air these.

If the problem is solvable quickly then it may be answered here if not it may be raised in a separate thread and hopefully solved there.

In addition to this of course is the fact that our independence from Microsoft means that a more balanced approach is often taken. especially in the use of 3rd party solutions.

I do agree with you both there. Its just taht these silly little complaints detract from the real problems.

I agree with Barman. The "little thing" that "do not really matter" to one (or more) of us could be a big issue to someone else. If we can help folks get over the "little thing" humps they find in 7, then perhaps the experience will be better for them.

We need to remember that the switch from XP to 7 is going to be traumatic for a lot of folks, and anything that makes it go smoother is a Good Thing. (The Vista folks may not have such a hard time of it.)

For the most part, I love Win 7. I work with Linux all day long at my jobby job, and though there are some general percs to Linux (IE: Always knowing what is running, what it is for, and just generally having more control), I must say, I feel more in control in Win 7 than I did even back with Windows xp.

My machine runs constantly, never restarts, never bogs, never grows tierd or sluggish. When I come back to it in the morning, it is just as snappy as when I left it, and it is even pretty to look upon. I enjoy the new monitors that come built in as well as some of the other features. Libraries are really starting to take off in my system, as I have over 7 hard drives, and more files than I know what to do with. Even though I have spent hours re-organizing, I like the fact that with libraries, I can go to one central place to look for things.. Cool..

Home groups are a potential complaint. For instance, I had a friend bring his 7 laptop over to my house last weekend, and for the life of us, we could not get his machine joined to my homegroup. It was not a huge hassle, as we were able to network the machines in other ways.

I have also had some trubs networking 7 with xp, but I am sure that was just my own ignorance on the subject. Still, I spent 30 minutes trying to join workgroups, etc.. and still could not access all files.. I solved that one, by installing 7 on the xp laptop, and I gotta tell yah, it runs better with 7 than it did before with xp..

I would change some things about explorer.. For instance, I wish I could prioritize the order in which the folders on the left are listed.. IE: Favorites, Libraries, Homegroup, Computer, Network. As Homegroup is next to useless, I sort of wish it could go Favories, Libraries, Computer, Network, Homegroups.. Also, I wich there was a way to open dual view in Explorer.. two locations in one window. Don't get me wrong, snap is nice, and makes resizing windows to get both locations side by side a bit easier, but I still wish Microsoft would catch on to this feature, that is gettable only through 3rd party apps like Directory opus.. Pasting files into an open crowded folder is not as easy as it should be. I like to run with check box next to files turned on, and that small space between the folder view and the check box is the only place one can right click and paste in order to make Win7 not try to paste to one of the files/folders in the directory.

I think copying and pasting of big files, or big bunches of files is slower than it should be, or than it is in other OS's, and this has remained true even with 3rd party apps like Teracopy installed.

I am attending a developer seminar in Minneapolis tomorrow, and will be receiving a free copy of 7 as an attendee. For the most part, I love this OS more than any other.. Those are my only gripes..

Regarding XP's pinball, its been a longtime favorite, so when I shifted from XP to Vista, the first thing I did was to make a copy of the Pinball folder.

It worked perfectly with no shoehorning required at all. Works absolutely great in 7x64 too. Just that the graphics look a little dated.

I really wish they would reinstate it in 7, maybe as a part of a future Extras pack??

so far my only real complaint is that i really think that windows should have a built in alarm clock by now. i travel constantly for work so my laptop tends to be my primary computer. there isnt always a reliable alarm clock around and even though i know there are various gadgets and 3rd party programs it just seems like it would be a simple feature to add to windows already existing taskbar clock.

another gripe just came to mind, i really liked the little robot game that vista ultimate had and im sad to see that it isnt in windows 7 so far, so i'm hoping they bring that one back too.

These buttons are replaced by the breadcrumb trail - I felt the same as you with this change but now after almost a year of using the new feature I find it limiting to go back to the old method in older programs. It's so much better to be able to jump up two or three levels with a single click.
