How to take a screen shop of the screen using snip tool

Hi guys,

I know how to get a picture by snip tool but it requires the mouse click. Consider this scenario please. There is a menu in some window and there is one button there which if I click on it some drop-down list appears. Now I want to capture that drop-down list but when I want to do that by snip Windows-built-in tool, that tool itself needs a mouse click which subsequently causes that drop-down list that I want to get its picture to disappear.
Could I say the subject clearly?
Is there any way please?

Yes, take a screenshot (PRNT SCRN button) of the entire window with your menu showing, then crop to the area you want after pasting into Paint, Photoshop, etc.

Or perhaps the slightly easier way that does not need image editing software is as follows:
Open the Snipping Tool and click the "Cancel Button" Don't
close the tool. A small icon will appear on your taskbar. Now
Click to open the context menu you want and that same window will open.
Now hold down CTRL on your keyboard and press the Print Screen key on
the keyboard. This will re open the Snipping Tool in new
mode and you will be able to draw round the window.Save
as normal!

Perhaps I got it wrong but I thought the OP wanted to know how to take a snippet of a context menu as when you have the chosen context menu open when you mouse click to open the Snipping Tool it closes the context menu. My post solves that problem!

There is a key named "PrtSc/SysRq" on my keyboard. But I don't know how it works.

That key when pressed places whatever you see on the monitor on the clipboard. When a graphics program is open the Paste option can be used to open it. If you have multiple windows open, pressing ATL+PRNT will capture only the active window to the clipboard.

I use Jing. You can program it to s function key and trigger the snip with that key. Works for me since years. Besides, you can make annotations, highlights, boxes and arrows on the snip - like this:

Well I always followed this tutorial How to Use the Snipping Tool in Vista

until I got used to using the snipping tool I just snip - save to pics - alter or add to the pic with Paint (right click on pic) and save back to Pictures. Then it is just a simple matter of attaching the pics from the Pictures library.

Mm I ma still using the method in post #14 as I cannot get anything to happen with prtsrn key whether it is this new laptop or what - anyhow I just snip and save to pics then alter with Paint as required. That way I have access to many pics that I use as refs to program usage I post to help members.

P.S. Sometimes you need the Fn key on a lappy for print screen key?

Yep tried the old fn key trick a long time ago Mitchell I have never really been that good with those darn double meaning keys.
I just do it the way I do it mainly because of saving the pics as I have done because I can do it really quite quickly now and it gives me a good personal library to add to posts ie different shots of using HW Info for example.

John, On your laptop if you forget all about the snipping tool and just press the Print Scrn key does that put the window on the clipboard?

No mate it doesn't do anything that I cans see and at the moment I am having a problem with that particular machine being not booting after a BIOS update - have got the updated BIOS but no boot (another thread).

To be honest I have never fully understood the prtscn key so have never used it I just find the snip is quick and easy but if the prtscn key is easy to use then I shall have to research it after I get this wretched BIOS problem sorted.
I will try it on my old Toshiba tonight though to see what happens with it.

After you click the prtscn key,
Open Paint (built in mspaint)
Click Paste, you should see the image of your desktop in the Paint window.

Doing this should copy the prtscn clipboard contents into a Paint window.
