Can Viruses transfer itself to a CD/DVD ?

As far as i know this usually don't happen , but in some forums , someone posted it is possible if the disc is writable . Now u must have seen an option in NERO while burning blank dvds, its called "make this a multi-session disc" to add more files later ... so if we select that option the disc still remains writable , Right ?
and if we don't select that option does it still remain a writable disc ??

What happened last night was , my Laptop froze to a black screen , it wouldn't start up even after re-inserting the laptop battery . This happened after i installed the software Audacity for mixing audio tracks.

After my PC froze i thought i would format my system and re-install windows.
So i used this win7 dvd (not original win7 dvd) . Anyway, so this dvd was once a blank writable dvd , in which i burned windows 7 files last year , but DID NOT used the multi-session option in NERO , so my question would be ... is the disc still writable ? You think viruses could have crept into that disc.
Btw last night i couldn't format the system coz it failed to boot from the disc. The system recovered itself. Scanned with my Anti-Virus, no infections found.

As far as I know, once the disk is finalized, no more data can be written to it. Not by normal means anyway.

Several things here, first if the disk was NOT multi-session, it's no longer writable, period, it has been burned completely and its current data it's the last thing it will have.

Then, can a virus enter the disk, while it was still writable? In theory, yes. The key point to remember is that a virus is a program, just like everything else in the computer, and as such, it can do everything the user who run it is allowed to do, just limited by system permissions. If a virus is designed to burn CDs on its own, it may copy itself, or tamper your burning program to put it in the disk. I never heard of such thing actually happen, but in theory, it's possible.

About the disk, how did you copy the files into it? Did you burn one of the official ISOs directly? Keep in mind that just copying the files it contains will not work, as you need the bootloader to be able to boot. That seems much more likely to me than a virus striking a DVD recording process.

And last, reformat because of a single crash? Isn't it a bit drastic?
I would agree if it was frequent or added to a couple of other problems, though.

Well the technician who came to my house last year made the win7 disc for me and back then (last year) there was no viruses . Anyway i guess i should be relieved now since my disc ain't multi-session therefore it ain't writable , besides i don't even have disc burning program like NERO currently in my system thanks Alejandro85 ... and yeah maybe i went too far with the format thingy , its bcoz i wasn't sure if this was a mere crash or virus attack as the system just wouldn't start up and since this happened few years ago coz of a virus attack with same symptoms like frozen PC with black screen , i thought i might as well start afresh.
