Solved Malware scan turns into a bad situation

Unfortunately your posts are not helpful posts and providing actual one-on-one support is what most users like from us. I know if my computer was having issues I certainly wouldn't want to read through all the useless trashing posts that give no real help.

Thank you again...

I'm one of those that caught in the false positive a while back.
I remember it didn't take long before Malwarebytes fixed the problem.

I have no idea how a problem like this slips through the testing process. I will wait before doing anything with Malwarebytes. I'm thinking the repair won't be long off.

Because I'm not a expert in anything I still have a suggestion that might help others.

When Malwarebytes finds a mass amount of problems don't remove anything until you check the Malwarebytes Forum. They might have instruction on what to do.

AdvancedSetup if my suggestion is not correct please PM me and I will remove it.
You could also post here for the correction that might be needed.

Question.

Is it still safe to update Malwarebytes?

Yes you need to update. Update V2014.07.26.09 was the bad actor and new updates have fixed the problem.

From my understanding this was a rare issue due to a unicode character in the rules. In theory it would not affect most users. As its still relatively new we're still gathering details but scanning with that rule set on machines in the office did not affect them. We have an automated server in place to also check this and it passed probably due to the unicode character but we'll see and I'm sure that upper management will post something by Monday if not sooner.

But the problem is that I didn't update it to either the version with the problems nor the new patch. I had the older version which I was going off on. If it was to be updated, then it would of prompt the screen and asked if I wanted to update now or later and it wouldn't have scanned at all. I know for sure since when ever I do scans and there's always updates, it would always ask me if I wanted to update.

It doesn't really matter now. What's done is done and I'm not going to use Malwarebytes until this error has been surpassed and there will be a 150% guarantee that this will not happen again. I mean I don't care about losing files because I've always been backing up my files, but it does to others who don't know anything about IT nor do they know anything about the dangers that lurk in the websites they use.

You have to be 100% sure before you release something. I'm not just saying, but I'm a web developer hence why I have MySQL installed, but I mean I'm not ganna sit here and complain, but normally. I'd always triple check what I'm publishing before I publish it. So that users won't have to deal with what I fail to do.

I'm done ranting. If you feel like using Malwarebytes, fine. If you don't fine. I'm just one of those people who don't use it if it's faulty.

This is not the first nor will it be the last time a bad update turns a perfectly good computer into a large paperweight after a bad update lived in the wild for 3 hours possibly longer tagging .sys files as malware

Should mbam alter it's default settings willingly to a realistic state,
Auto Quarantining is ultimately dangerous as people find out eventually,

Is reloading windows an acceptable circumstance when or if windows restore points fail ?

...Locking threads is a pitiful way to stifle feedback as a company you should do better at accepting peoples inquiries where ever they leave it,
...

Leaving them as they are is not a benefit to your customer or potential customer or anyone recommending your product,
Cheers.
I dunno, seems pretty darn good advice/helpful to me, at the very least debate/discussion worthy. Why would you stifle such discussion/debate?

I basically reformatted my had-drive, wiping all the files and then I installed Windows 8 on it. Now it's working fine, but I'm going to have to get used to this Windows 8 thing. I'm not able to re-install Windows 7 for some reason. Oh well. I'm still able to do stuff so yeah. Thanks for all your guys' help.

I just woke up here in Berlin and see what's transpired since we had you started on this last night. I'm shocked and surprised at the MBAM update problems but never recommend MBAM Real Time in addition to MSE unless there is chronic infection which it resolves in every case I've seen.

The "pending Repair" error can often be overcome by trying new Win7 installation media or System Repair Disk, or exporting and rewriting the bootsect code with bootrec/bootsect commands given.

There are also many other steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which can be tried so you know you tried everything possible.

That you are unable to install Win7 is further indication you may need to try new media.

Work through these steps for Overcoming Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums which resolve 90% of installation failures.

@Yard Dog Not really. I've tried using a Recovery Disk that I had and it kept doing that error. I had to start from scratch.

@gregrocker I was trying all options you gave me in the specific order you said and I still kept getting the "pending Repair" error. I believe it's because my computer needs more than just a small repair.

@Golden Thanks a lot. I'll look into that and read it in full detail. Thanks a lot.

To force Factory Recovery disks to run sometimes requires wiping the hard drive with Diskpart Clean Command.

One should always be able to boot into System Recovery Options on the disk no matter what repairs are required. Sometimes it requires resetting the BIOS to defaults from BIOS setup to boot a disk, though.

Be sure to monitor System Restore space apportionment on the disk, and that your points are not deleted by any Defrag operation: System Protection - Change Disk Space Usage

This information is in case you want to upgrade to Win7, or for others who find this thread.

What happens alot is that the Clean Install is not looked at carefully enough and the correct cd's/dvd's are not made and used.

Well viewing the topics here on this site and on the Wilders site as well as our own the number of users affected so far appears to be very low. Hopefully once businesses open tomorrow the numbers don't climb too high.

Generally speaking one should be able to use Robocopy to copy files from one to another if they are both the same version of Windows.

Yeah no. That would of just led me back to the blue screen of death. Like stated by gregrocker. My system files were quarantined which makes it impossible to get bypass unless something magical happens and the system files reverted back to the same place they belong. Then "Selecting last known good configuration" would work.

@AdvancedSetup
Or is that just because you guys don't have a big user base like AVG does? Most people I ask what anti-virus/malware protection they use and they list a bunch of stuff like AVG, Avast, SystemCore, .etc.

None of them know or have heard of Malwarebytes. It's funny that you said there isn't much talk about this error that's been going around because there are only a select few that use this crappy protection. I included and I dealt with the errors that obviously the developers failed to do.

Yeah after following the order, it just keeps saying

"There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete." I've turned off and on my PC and I still get the same message.

Both system repair and system restore fails.

must have something to do with the options selected in the program because my Malwarebytes does not grab the system files. Just a thought
