Can I use onboard graphics with graphics card

I was wondering is it possible to use onboard graphics from my motherboard and use my graphics card at the same time? Also my motherboard states that the onboard graphics is dependent on the cpu. What exactly does this mean how does my cpu effect the onboard graphics

No, usually one can't use both onboard and add-in graphics adapters, by adding the plug-in card the onboard automatically gets disabled, at least on all the computers I've done it with.

Some newer CPUs do have things combined such as AMD CPUs that include ATI video, usual quick explanation of making things that way is for speed. AMD owns ATI Graphics.

The on board graphics uses the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) which is built into the CPU package. This is quite common for on board graphics.

Yes you can, you can use your IGPU for an additional monitor. I run two monitors of my 760, and a third off the IGPU.



Enable multi monitor as shown in my BIOS pic. The benefit is my 760 will go to a lower power mode when not gaming etc. If I hook all three monitors it will not go to the lower power state. With the lower power state the cards temp is 8-10C lower at idle.

Most recent Intel cpu's have the graphics integrated into the chip (some don't). I guess 'dependent' means mobo onboard gfx if the cpu supports this.

enabled it and i still does not work. The monitor I am using says it has no signal. I thought it may have been the monitor or the vga cord. But when I unplug the cord from my motherboard or the monitor itself. It says the cable has been disconnected so the cable and monitor are working I believe. Do i need to download some drivers for the onboards graphics after enabling these settings. Also when I enter my bios not all my bios options fit on screen at one time. Is their anything I can do about this

Well my monitor only connects by VGA and my motherboard does not have a vga port.

I attempted to do this I got an error message saying that my computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I attempted to download the vga drivers from the website

Okay, I was hoping for an error code with it.

Lets try this. Power down and remove your discrete card. Power up into your bios and set it for IGD and go into windows. Then try installing the latest vga driver from MSI. If this works, the power down and re install the discrete gpu.
