Hello there. I have been redirected here by jamanji, whom has been most helpful by the way.
My PC crashed a little over a week ago.
Rather than retype everything, I would like to give you the link to my post.
I am not 'Tech' per se, but I would like to try and resolve my problem myself,
To make a long story short... I had error 0xc000000f. I have 2 threads on the subject, but the first thread was useless.( I think)
I read gregrocker's tutorial.
I made a Kaspersky Disc. I have a Pop Up from Kaspersky.
saying if I continue...........

Here are the links.

If you read this...Thank you for your time.

Ok mate one thing straight up the Kaspersky only requires a CD you can use a DVD but seriously a waste of useable space. Have been using Kaspersky security and tis rescue disk for years now so just the CD mate.

Just follow the prompts when you run the disk. It will boot (of course) but will not need Windows to do anything.

There are other options -

Bootable AntiVirus Rescue CD for Windows: Free Download any are good and again do not require Wndows to run.

If you can get it going then I would try this
http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/utility < the top scanner TDSS Killer

Ok I was just under the impression that you needed to scan with the rescue disk and you were confused as to the pop up message from Kaspersky (post#1) saying if I continue.......
I just mentioned others that are the same as the Kaspersky one if you wanted to use one of them. But if you have your problem sorted then all's good.

I'm presuming you're still waiting to try the kaspersky rescue disk, but it is telling you to shut down the machine correctly before it will allow you to go any further, and you've gotten it running (somewhat) again.

I am also presuming you have restarted your machine successfully several times, so you can't figure out why kaspersky insists on showing this warning.

Two things I'd like you try, this one first we may not have to try the second:

Restart your machine and tap the F8 key to enter: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/69585-safe-mode.html. In the Option #1 area you'll see a screen with the Safe Mode Options. Use the arrow keys to move the selection down to "Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), then press enter or return to continue booting to Windows.

This choice of restarting uses files that are somewhat harden against crashes and hopefully haven't been damaged in the crashes allowing your machine to restart normally.

If your machine gets to the desktop, try working with it to see if it continues to act like it has from the onset of your problem. If it doesn't then all should be good.

If it continues to act weirdly (a tech term), there is one more thing we can try before you try running that kaspersky disk.

Even if your machine seems to be working okay, I may still ask you to try my second step just to verify the integrity of your system.

Hello Anak. Thank you for responding.
I can start my computer, but I have the screen that says Windows failed to start and if I continue it goes to BSOD. I will try your suggestion and get to you. I really appreciate your help in this matter. :)

Did you boot just into Safe Mode or Safe Mode using Last Known Configuration??

Ok lets see what comes up with Anaks suggestion.
The Kaspersky message is just one that is requesting what you want to do - that is do you want to go ahead if you choose ok go ahead it should just boot to the Kaspersky screen and run the scan.

If it isn't booting the disk then there is something very wrong.

For example if you were to try this and it didn't boot to Ubuntu then the machine is very ill.

BOOTABLEUBUNTU

Makea bootable Ubuntu disk http://www.ubuntu.com/download

Setthe BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you ascreen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY. You can of course remove the hard drive and any otherdrives when doing this as if the optical alone is the only drive left in themachine then the BIOS will only find it to boot from.

Whenit is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in thepic .

Openthe drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settingsyou may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source orother installed drive doing this.

Iam not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this methodboth on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data fromusing Windows.
If the thing does not go to the screen in the pic after following my info either it could be the optical drive is bricked or the machine like I said is very sick.

In any case the Ubuntu if nothing else will allow you to retain data as in my ditty.

Hi ICit2lol. Ok. What size disc do I need?
I am not sure why I am doing this though. Is it to rescue my files?
If this is the case, I already did that. I made a Lucid Puppy CD. It booted.
(I followed jamanji's Tutorial.)
I mounted my C:drive and I was able to rescue all of my data.
Or is this just a test?

Maybe I'm missing something, but why do you want to run the kaspersky disk? From my understanding it is only used to recover from a virus attack. Is that what started all this Elljay?

Any good quality recordable CD should be okay for recording. That may be the problem why your system repair disk isn't working properly you have a bad disk, and no you can't really tell by looking at them.

Here's the procedure to "factory restore" your machine, scroll 'bout a third of the way down here: Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 7) | HP® Support
Recovery from the startup screen (during system boot)

If Windows 7 does not open correctly, perform the following steps to recover the computer:
note.png

NOTE:If the recovery partition on the hard disk drive is not functioning correctly, this method does not work and an error message appears. If an error message indicates that System Recovery cannot be run from the startup screen, a set of recovery discs is needed to perform a system recovery. Follow the instructions listed in the section Recovery from recovery discs .

  • Turn off the computer.

  • Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes. Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware. Do not disconnect the monitor, keyboard, mouse, or power cord.

  • Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key, about once every second, until Recovery Manager opens.
Have you tried to use F11? When you do, start tapping or pressing immediately as you turn on your machine.

I'd sure like to see a pix of your disk management, but since you can't boot into Windows normally or with safe mode, that's out. :(

Have you considered trying the F11 procedure?

Read the link in my last post, if the recovery screen does open follow the instructions after:

Recovery from the startup screen (during system boot)If Windows 7 does not open correctly, perform the following steps to recover the computer:
'bout a third of the way down start with step #4.

At this point the red fail sound card state isn't that critical, well, it is, but it isn't. I can explain later if needed.

What I find interesting is the 2nd screen shot near the bottom under switching; That says if you want to change applications, press alt+tab, and it opens the accessibility menu.

Maybe from there you could access the factory restore?

Do you have the capability to open a Command window?

Hi Anak. To answer your question about running the Kaspersky Disc. It is because I was reading a Tutorial about Reinstalling Windows 7. It said before doing so, one could try to run Kaspersky and see if it can quarintine enough viruses to then be able to boot into windows and essentially fix the problem.
(at least that is what I thought it said. My brain's getting fried. lol.)
I am getting all confused now because I've read so many, but I think it was gregrocker's.
