No battery detected with Windows 7

I've installed Windows 7 RC on my old Acer TravelMate 4001 notebook. Installation went fine, all drivers are working, but only one is missing - ACPI driver. In other words, Windows doesn't know, that there's a battery in the computer and that's quite a problem for a notebook. It's problem with drivers, not with the battery. If drivers are fine and battery us dead, there would be an icon in toolbar saying 'battery is dead'. But i got no icon, no advanced power options, no 'time reamining' indicator, nothing.
In windows XP everything was OK, but since I started using Window Vista and Windows 7 - no battery found and one unknown ACPI device in device manager.

I've searched for help many times on internet without any success, I'm asking here, maybe somebody experienced the same problem and found some solution. Thanks any advice :)

Hi Necroman,

If there is an 'Unknown' ACPI device in Device Manager has it got a yellow tag/exclaimation on it? If so try right-click then Update driver software to see if anything gets detected on Windows Update.

Hope this helps :)

Already tried that, no suitable/working driver found, even online.

I am seeing a few drivers at the Acer website... but I do not see a 4001... I see a 4000 and a 4010...

acer website although the drivers listed for this laptop (4010) only shows for XP, no Vista.

Looking around online, it appears many of these Acer laptops have a custom driver setup only designed for the original OS it comes with which may explain why none are found for Vista or newer.

+1, It would be the 4000 series chipset drivers from the link above that you require. This should solve the issue.

Well I've got the exact same problem (travelmate 4000 with radeon 9700). The system just don't see the battery. In the device manager there is an unknown device (yellow) that says Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (code 28). I've tried almost everything (Drivermax, windows update, bunch of different drivers from the internet...) but nothing seems to work.

Guess we have to wait for MS to sort it out:( I don't like this option a bit:)
Maybe some hack or something...or try other manufacturer with very similar notebook specs...don't know...what about you guys?

What about acer upgrade kit? I'm downloading it right now:)

I would assume this page displays the list of models that will be supported - Windows® 7 Upgrade Offer for Windows 7, so if your model isn't on there it maybe trial and error getting things to work that don't at the moment.

Yeah I know 4000 will not be supported - it's a shame. But maybe in the acer upgrade kit is the "holy" driver somewhere:) Don't know yet but I'll keep you posted.

Hey same owner same problem here.
I'm using travelmate 4001 (it is btw a 4000 series) with radeon 9700.

I have the same issue, one unknown device and the missing battery driver (so no battery status).

And before another person posts some "helpful" suggestions.. And no, I did not turn off system icons in the system tray, did not disable any battery driver. Unplug and plugggins in battery do not work in this issue. THE PROBLEM is we need a driver for the battery/UPS device.

Anyone has an idea which updated models share the same battery or something that is on Vista/7? Maybe we can try those drivers. And if anyone knows if battery drivers usually in the chipset drivers for motherboard?
