I've noticed recently that my computer time clock advances itself about 7 hours sometimes once a week or twice a week. It is set to the correct Time Zone(Pacific Time) and the CMOS Battery measures 3.05 volts. I have no gadgets on the desktop running. So, what could be causing this changing of time randomly? I haven't been able to catch what time of the day this occurs or if it happens when I switch ON the computer. What else could I monitor or look into to solve this problem?

Does your clock advance ahead of actual time or is it catching up because it was way behind actual time.

It happens due to Ubuntu. Everytime you boot into Windows after using Ubuntu, you face this clock change.

Ubuntu assumes that your hardware clock is set to UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) whereas Windows assumes that your hardware clock is set to local time. That is the reason behind this issue. Very common for systems having both these OSs installed.

Configure Ubuntu to use your local time. Boot to Ubuntu, Open a terminal. Use it .....
Code:
sudo gedit /etc/default/rcS
Now search for UTC there (UTC stands for Universal Time Coordinated). If it is set to yes, then set it to no.

Save it and Exit from terminal. Now set the time in Ubuntu. Boot back to Windows and set the time in windows too.

No more mishap with times will be there.

Thanks Arc for your reply. Thought you should know that I have dual boot with Ubuntu since Ubuntu version 8.04 LTS came out, which is many years ago and I have never had this problem until now with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. I will go ahead try your suggestion and get back with the results one way or the other. Thank you Ranger4 for your response also.

OK, I am back. This is what happened. Went to Ubuntu and entered the code in the Terminal. This is what I got:

(gedit:2499): Gtk-WARNING **: Calling Inhibit failed: GDBus.Error:oorg.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.gnome.SessionManager was not provided by any .service files [/B]

The gedit file that opened was blank. There was no YES or NO to choose from. But, here is the kicker, when I came back to Windows 7 from Ubuntu, the clock advanced 7 hours. The clock in Ubuntu was correct with the correct time zone. At least now I know when it happens, but what now?

OK Ark, here is an Update from my last post. I finally figure out your instructions and went back to Ubuntu and made the change from YES to NO. Saved the rcs file and booted back to Windows 7. Bravo! The time remained the same with no change. Thank you very much. I will print and file this post for future problems like this. I appreciate your help.
