What's the MOST Fonts you have installed?

I have a giant list of fonts i'm installing and i made it through 0-F. I still need to go through g-z. Anyways, while installing a win update message popped up so i clicked it and told it to install the windows live essentials and the security update for C++ 2008.

Well, it was already gettin sluggish since i had so many fonts installed and i assume it was still indexing but i couldn't tell to after the win update happened it asked to restart i said ok and on restart after the starting windows screen it started to hang.

it was stuck on a black screen for like 2 minutes before it even showed anything. then it came up saying 100% update completed then shutting down. it restarted and same thing except it froze goin into the logon screen and i don't even have a pass setup. then finally on boot i decided i didn't want the dvd maker app and removed a few things like the printer svcs including xps reader/printer. also a few preloaded games, and i think a few other things.

it restarts.....same thing, taking forever to start up after starting windows splash. now im up and for like 5 minutes my svchost.exe was counting up into the 80k usage and my whole cpu was at 50-60% when nothing was even happening! the indexing service was at about 50k and explorer was 40k. then finally came to norm. so i'm at 0-1%.

I also went to update again and it says live essentials update failed. Isn't that what it was doint initially after first reboot that caused my hangup?? I checked even viewer and it said a couple times The NVIDIA Display Driver Service service has reported an invalid current state 32 code 7016. Also mentions an improper shutdown, and a couple security warnings. What could cause this? Safe to turn off indexing? Too many fonts possible? Sorry for the story!!! lol

Unless you're a graphic designer, there is no reason at all to have more fonts installed above the defaults. If you are a Graphic Designer, then you'd be familiar with programs like Corel Draw.

Corel Draw includes a program called "Bitstream Font Navigator". With it, you can install or remove fonts with a few mouse clicks, and when you open a Corel Draw file that uses a font that is not installed, it offer to install it for you before the file is fully opened.

Perhaps you needs a similar program, although I am unsure as to whether or not "Bitstream Font Navigator" is available seperately....

Other than that, there is really no need at all for any extra fonts.

well now my computer's slower than crap, and i'm left with a bunch of installed fonts i can't remove using AMP Font Viewer
any suggestions on uninstalling fonts more in depth??

Awhile ago, after searching for a particular font that I was actually going to use, I thought it would be great idea to install a load of fonts just for the sake of having them, until I went to find the font I needed in Photoshop, never again, because as you've found out, it's a real pain in the ass removing them all.

I have used Bitstream font navigator in the past and it is, or was, available as a standalone application from Bitstream, the Font company.

You may want to have a look at a totally free alternative Nexus Font manager which is similar in operation and works with Windows 7

What I do with fonts is I have a set of installed fonts that I use everyday and the others are kept off line on my data drive in a set of folders by style and type.

This keeps the overhead required by the OS to a minimum and keeps things running smoothly

Using the font manager I can easily visually browse and select then add and remove fonts from the active fonts folder as needed.

it does take a little time and thought to organise the fonts but once done it makes simple to use.

Some designers will create a folder for each project or client and load those fonts as the work on a particular job

Could you check your windows update history and see if there was anything being installed at the same time you were doing your fonts. The 100% notice would suggest to me that there was a windows update being processed.

I have restored and my fonts folder says i have 523 files but when i open it, its showing 0 items. Why?

In the start search bar type shell:fonts and enter

Report back what you see

521 working fonts, so how's there 523 in my windows/fonts folder. i haven't done anything since i restored. but do continue with what you were gettin at firstly

The fonts folder that you see is a special windows system folder it is possible for this to not work correctly thus presenting incorrect information - the folder is set by default to automatically hide font variations such a bold and italic sometimes it may "get confused"

the Shell:fonts command opens the folder as a standard folder

I believe there is a tutorial in the tutorials section here that will allow you to reset all the special system folders to their correct settings
