Is my RAM faulty? Various BSOD

Hi, nice build by the way. Did you purchase the two sticks together as one set?

No, i bought 4 then 4 :D

I believe this all started here with Harrie responding to Ishraq when Ishraq was probably asking MrJWilson the question about the RAM.

Anyway, this whole discussion has been based on hearsay since there haven't been any dump files uploaded to analyze.

Additional information is required.

1. Download this file to your desktop or other convenient location,

Download

2. Double click on the file to run it.

3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

OK well I just got another IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD (first time today). This was at 19.51 GMT UK. If I use that program again, would it likely give any more indication than the zip I already uploaded?

So today, web surfing has been fine. No BSOD. I then start listening to music/copying music files from one of my internal drives to another and within 10 mins or so, a BSOD IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

This was the common thing between today and yesterday where I got lots of BSOD doing the same thing.

Maybe something is on its way out hardware wise but I feel like I havn't yet ruled out drivers.

I have two PCI soundcards installed but one is disabled if that is of any relevance.

Unfortunately there are no dump files in your upload, you haven't run any cleaning programs or disk cleanup have you?

You may want to make sure your system is set to create small memory dumps as well,

There aren't any .dmp file in your attachment. These are required to analyse the BSOD.

Follow these steps:

Dump Files - Configure Windows to Create on BSOD

Then, when the system next BSOD's, follow this:

1. Download this file to your desktop or other convenient location,

Download

2. Double click on the file to run it.

3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

I see a bunch of application crashes listed but no blue screen events which is interesting.

And a whole bunch of CBS errors from right after your last install date.

This might be useful,

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Also, of the three events I see from this month, two are related to a program called Allway Sync crashing. Try removing that or any other sync program for the time being.

Hi,

What version of the zip are you using. have you tried the one ending v1.1 NOT 1.0?

The first one did not include the dump as I ran exe from C root. It did on the 2nd one when I ran it from a different location.

If not i'll try your suggestion.

It seems odd that it would be to do with Allway Sync. Its a file program I use on occasions but is not even running unless I launch it.

I wonder if I have done something silly disabling essential services. I followed some advice from blackvipers website to carefully disable some un-needed services.

That was weeks ago though and I did not have these problems then.

Many of those crashes you see may be fairly typical for me. I do a lot of audio related DAW vst stuff, and also sync files over LAN ssh. Browsers or flash player sometimes crashes too. Fairly typical imo

These BSOD of the last week seem like something different and non-typical.

I was just pointing out a few things I saw while looking through some of your logs since there were no dump files to check.

It never hurts to run the SFC /SCANNOW I suggested.

The comment about disabling services from Black Viper is concerning, win 7 doesn't need any of those tweaks so you may have done something there.

Just because it took a week or more may only mean that the service was fine in it's original state until the OS tried to access what you disabled.

I'm not blaming the blue screens on the application crashes, just pointing out the little info I did see.

Besides you did say that you can no longer use your computer.

With all due respect, It does seem like people are not reading what each other have posted in any detail.

I am the original poster with the problem (possibly ram related), not HarriePateman, who keeps getting quoted for some reason / misunderstanding (He is not the one with the computer issues. I am. There is nothing wrong with his ram).

Any suggestions other than MemTest86? I don't think its ram related now (due to what I wrote in my last few posts) but if it is, i'll have to get tech support to test / RMA it.

IMO its a bit beyond resonable expectations to run software checks that take almost a day, multiple times.
I appreciate the help and advice but i'm not running MemTest again unless I am certain its ram causing the issues and nothing else is.

I'll get on to tech support.

I highly doubt it is your RAM but whatever. My bet is that it has something to do with your SSD (coming from fixing countless computers from countless people.) not saying that your SSD is necessary bad. You may had something in your SSD that may caused windows to get confused when booted up. I used to have the same problem with my little Netbook when I tried out windows 8 on there lol

Have you made a back up of your computer?

Can you or would you Wipe your SSD clean and re install windows?

or even a better Idea, try moving your SSD to a different computer and have that computer boot from your SSD and see what it does!

Hello MrJWilson.

It feels bad that your thread turns out to be a roflmao thread. Feeling bad for you, too.

You have already got a lot of suggestions. I dont want to say anything against those, but what I can see that the issue is caused by the display driver.
Code:
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for atikmdag.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for atikmdag.sys
[COLOR=Red]Probably caused by : atikmdag.sys[/COLOR] ( atikmdag+307de )

Followup: MachineOwner
---------
But, the display driver is 13.9 WHQL, which is good and stable enough.
Code:
    Image name: atikmdag.sys
    Timestamp: Tue Apr 30 07:37:09 2013
Still, as you are having BSODs, update it to 14.4 WHQL. Download Drivers

If the issue continues even after altering the display driver version, some more troubleshooting will be needed.

So let us know how it goes. If it BSODs again, report us following Derek's post #21.

I may not be online later. In that case I am sure that Derek and Harrie will assist you further.

A new install wont rule out hardware, if its damaged its damaged.

As arc said your driver version is stable, try to clean all the dust off your GFX Card and reseat it and she if that helps.

Report back :)

oops. I am sorry about the misunderstanding here everyone. My intent was not to confuse but to try and help; and i see that it didnt end up that way. Now, back to the issue at hand; Mrjwilson; I believe that your issue could possibly be something motherboard related such as a controller of some sort or the like. But; since you said you wonder if it could be driver related; yes that is always a possibility. Have you checked to make sure all drivers have been updated? If not i would check that and see if there are updates.

Hi,

Sorry about late responding. Busy day. No worries about the misunderstandings in this topic as I think everyone is on the same page, so to speak.

Couple of things...

I no longer seem to be getting any BSOD and have been booting / using my pc for a couple of days, almost trying to trigger one as I realised my dump file settings were not set to "small dump". They are now and I aimed to upload one for analysis.

This is why I am currently trying to see if this is software related as there isn't much to go on yet that its hardware or motherboard / ram problems imo. It would have BSOD in 7 hours of use surely?

Ignore the "allway sync" application crashes in my logs as I know exactly why they did (unrelated to this)

The no BSOD may be linked to me running sfc /scannow. It found errors and fixed them all. I ran it again and now get

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I used blackviper service settings as I followed this since XP to get the most optimised system for audio / latency stuff but I'll rethink this for W7 as it may be misguided now (I need Windows search disabled though).

Is there any way to set all the W7 services to their SP1 defaults in one swoop?

Talking about the gfx drivers, I remember a problem I had after installing W7 where I installed the ATI driver and the intel integrated gfx driver in the wrong order which caused a system crash during the install if the intel driver.

I had to system restore it and uninstall both drivers, then install them in a different order. Intel gfx first I think.
I do wonder if that is in any way related?

Regarding my new install suggestion, to clarify I meant doing a temporary fresh W7 install on my SSD, load the drivers and use it for a week to see if I get any of the same problems (which I would have thought would indicate it being a driver issue or more likely hardware issues). Just an idea. I have this install backed up.

Lastly I wish I now had shared this problem in this topic http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/345284-cpu-temperature-rises-90c-idle-boot-1st-3rd.html

I wonder if this provides any more clues. I thought this may be unrelated but having second thoughts.

Would it be a good idea to completly remove both graphics drivers and then monitor my system?

Cheers.

Oh yeh, all drivers are the most up to date versions. I checked. 13.9 for ATI is the latest according to their website for my card.

Only things not up to date is the bios firmware (voids my oc warranty, need to address this with retailer), and the SSD firmware is not the latest.

Yes, you are right at this point. 13.9 WHQL is the last applicable driver for AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series.

But, saying it again, apparently display is the issue, nothing else right now at this stage of troubleshooting.
Code:

About 13.9 WHQL, it is a very stable version of the driver. I have never seen this one failing only for itself. So there may be any other reason that might be causing the failure in the background. What those may be? Let us cheek the possibilities one by one.

Overclocking.
Overclocking is a very frequent cause of display failure. Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.
I am not against overclocking, but that is the first place to eliminate in this case.
Dust accumulation and heat.
Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/311593-speccy-publish-snapshot-your-system-specs.html .
Inadequate power supply.
Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.

Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.

Though it will not guarantee about the actual performance of the PSU.
The GPU itself.
Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark. Take the built in 15 minutes benchmark test.
Let us know the results. Also post for any further BSOD.

Cheers for the suggestions. Overclock has not been enabled at all through this btw.

I am no longer having BSOD at all (yet?) and it seems it was running sfc / scannow which found and fixed some problems, which has stopped BSOD occuring. I'll see what happens during use in the next couple of weeks.

Could someone respond specifically to these points if they don't mind?

A) Regarding the cpu issues i'm having, whatever the cause of this is, can it be in any way, a realistic occurence for cpu core temperatures to read 80c and over but then drop down to 30c or less in literally 36 seconds from restart?

This has to be a faulty sensor issue surely as I don't see how temperatures can rise and fall that quick if genuine.
BIOS also reads around 37c cpu.

B) Is there a simple method / script that would revert any changes I have made to system services, back to their service pack 1 defaults?

C) Is having two graphics drivers - ATI driver and intel integrated graphics driver, problematic to a system? I don't quite understand the problem that has been highlighted. I'm not sure what about any of it is failing as I can't tell it is. Seems to be working. I have stopped Catalyst control centre from auto starting, that is about it.

My ATI card routes out to my pc monitor (Monitor 1) and the intel graphics is routed to HDTV via hdmi as monitor 2. Display is set to show desktop only on one.

Thanks for the help guys.

Sadly I just had a BSOD.

Following derekimo's advice, I ran that script after a BSOD. This should included the dump file as I made the changes in system advanced start up and recovery settings.

I really hope someone is able to help me out and hone in on the issue via these dumps,as it seems it could be just about everything and anything causing it, from gfx drivers to ram to motherboard, to bios settings, etc

These problems are exhausting as I need a fully working pc asap and I can't figure this out.

I appreciate the help / suggestions guys.

WinDGB blames PCTools Internet Security. See if an update solves it, but I think you are better off replacing it with something like MSE.

Is that linked directly to the BSOD I had today at 12:11 GMT?

I had a very similar/same bugcheck analysis which referenced ati dirver. All of these things are either up to date or I can't replace.

PCTools Firewall is no longer developed but i've been comfortable using this version for years without any problems / crashes. I don't know enough to know exactly what that analysis is telling me.

Unable to verify timestamp for [Insert driver of software here] *** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for...

Is this a service not loading correctly? Its the same message across different .sys files (ATI, PC Tools) I'm sure there are likely more.

I just don't get why, with this last fresh windows installation it's suddenly giving me problems. Everything that once worked fine with same system / W7.
