Is my RAM faulty? Various BSOD

Hi,

I have been experiencing a number of issues with my PC lately.

Specs below:

  • Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium
  • Intel 4670K Haswell CPU
  • Gigabyte Z87X-OC Motherboard
  • Corsair Memory Vengeance Low Profile Jet Black 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz Ram
  • Samsung EVO Pro SSD

Since I reinstalled windows several months ago, I was getting the odd BSOD, however it has become much more common, almost during every session.

I can no longer use my pc and sometimes It wont even boot before BSOD.

I've had:

  • PFN_LIST_CORRUPT ....04E
  • MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
  • A PROBLEM DETECTED NEEDS TO SHUT DOWN
  • JRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and something which mentioned drivers.

I believe this to be a problem with ram and not drivers as BSOD has got more frequent with no changes to system. Drivers are all up to date

I have run Windows Memory Diagnostics and it showed hardware problems were detected.
I could not find any WindowsMemoryDiagnostics-Results in Windows logs following the guide on this forum.
I've waited but still not there. It did finish uninterrupted.

I am currently running MemTest86 via usb but it could take a while.
Does all of the above indicate faulty hardware? Likely RAM?

i definitely got various BSOD that related to some driver issue but i have no idea how to determine which it is?
Does W7 save all memory dumps after every BSOD. i have seen people post "logs" on here and others have managed to determine the cause from it. Any way to do this?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

It could be RAM Related.

Cary on running memtest for 9 passes.

Will do. I left it to run under its automatic default settings. Will it get to 9 passes under default settings or do I need to configure this?

i gather it will take a while!

Hi, nice build by the way. Did you purchase the two sticks together as one set?

 lol ^

Well I ran MemTest86 under its default settings, with both 8gb ram sticks in place, as the scan was in progress before I had read the replies on here.

It ran 4 passes (default) of all nine or ten of the tests. This took about 20 hours!

It did not detect a single error and the manual seemed to indicate that not detecting any errors in multiple passes is likely to mean the ram is performing correctly.

It is just not feesible for me to run 9 passes on a single stick (18 passes for both). This would literally take days with my pc running 24/7. It is still under warranty but I dont think the ram is the issue. I dont understand why windows Memory Diagnostics indicated errors but MemTest did not.

Interesting is that I am no longer having the BSOD issues (yet). The one thing i've done is switched off a midi keyboard which had been on (via usb plug n play) during the BSOD. This is a fairly old keyboard.

I do wonder if this is driver releated. Any ideas how I could determine this or request some help on here to? Do I need to post the dump files?

Is there anything else I could post? Event logs?

Cheers.

You only have to run it on each stick if after 9 passes on both sitcks you reviced an error

But 9 passes is still likely going to take over 40 hours. Sorry I don't quite understand why 4 passes is not sufficient but 9 is? Would it have not detected even a single error in 4 passes if the ram was faulty?

I think something else may be at play here. Would my PC not have BSOD again with faulty ram? I've been using it for the last three hours with no problem, which confuses things as it kept on BSOD yesterday.

I'm going to see what happens when I switch the keyboard back on.

My Ram is not the problem?

...i mean to try running one stick 'o ram

What? there's nothing wrong with my ram?

There could still be issues with you ram. Try running memtest with one stick of ram at a time. Take the others out; run memtest for 9 passes at least and see if any errors come up. Same with 2 sticks and then the other 2 and see if any errors come up. If one or more errors come up running 1 or more sticks then those particular sticks are most likely bad and need to be replaced.

Well if you have run the test for ram and it shows nothing wrong; then it could be something like a ram controller and or the like if I am thinking correctly there is such thing still.

With all due respect, It does seem like people are not reading what each other have posted in any detail.

I am the original poster with the problem (possibly ram related), not HarriePateman, who keeps getting quoted for some reason / misunderstanding (He is not the one with the computer issues. I am. There is nothing wrong with his ram).

Any suggestions other than MemTest86? I don't think its ram related now (due to what I wrote in my last few posts) but if it is, i'll have to get tech support to test / RMA it.

IMO its a bit beyond resonable expectations to run software checks that take almost a day, multiple times.
I appreciate the help and advice but i'm not running MemTest again unless I am certain its ram causing the issues and nothing else is.

I'll get on to tech support.
