Hi,

I have a couple of Windows 7 Pro (x86) machines that are used as kiosks in public locations. I'd like to have the computers display a video on the screen, presumably as a screensaver, while no one is logged in to Windows. Usage sessions with the kiosks are short. Folks usually just want to look something up online or quickly print a document. I read a tutorial by Brink for Windows 7 which sets a blank logon screensaver, but I wonder if that functionality can be extended to include video clips.

Thanks

Welcome to Seven Forums N74JW. I do not think it is possible to have a video on the logon screen. It is possible as desktop background. You can change the logon screen background, and the startup animation, but you cannot play a video. I'm sure there are Kiosk programs, and it's possible they could do what you'd like. A Guy

Thanks Guy! I figured as such. I'll look into some third party programs for this type of thing.

Perhaps the computer can be logged into a restricted-privilege 'Guest' account running a video screensaver. A tap on the screen would bring up the desktop with a single "Switch User' login icon being the account's only executable. A video desktop background is an alternative to the screensaver also.

I need a solution that can run independently of a logged-in user account. Logging-off a generic user account then logging another one back in to actually use the kiosk would be a bit cumbersome. The steps demonstrated here work well, once I was able to get the video converted into an SCR screensaver format.

... Logging-off a generic user account ...
I believe the 'log-off is automatic/transparent with the 'switch user' function.

... The steps demonstrated here ...

I also believe registry mods are 'removed' with system restores, sfc's, other sys maintenance utilities?
