Would you recommend MSE final over Kaspersky 2010?

MSE is getting good reviews from everyone and I want to try it out but don't know if I should switch over from Kaspersky.

I use MSE and like it (32 bit Windows 7 and XP), but if you have Kapersky already, I'd stand pat, at least for a while, and see what the reviews look like over the next month or so.

I would go for MSE over any paid for product because 1). It's free 2). I don't have many problems with viruses and spyware...so I don't need outstanding products to protect me.

personally, i get a 3-license kaspersky for free, and i'm very pleased with it, but i think i may try mse on my laptop to see what it's like.

That was a very interesting read and will try out MSE for a bit and see how good it is.

My dad had Kaspersky 2010 and it would slow his XP down.. So when MSE came out I told him about it he uses and loves it because of the low resources...

It is just a baisc protection for basic people my dad just checks his e-mail and goes and the web from time to time works well..

We also setup windows firewall.. Great two products for free!!

MSE is good for computers that can't run the high end protection..
I would try it out..

First of all MSE is only an Antivirus/Antispyware. Are you using Kaspersky AV or Internet Security (IS)? If you'r using the full suite then you are getting more protection then using just an AV/AS, so comparing it with MSE is "apples and oranges". That said since MSE is free and Kaspersky 2010 is available as trialware why not try them both and see how the system responds? With MSE I would add something like PC Tools Firewall Plus for additional protection.

At the moment I'm running NOD32 on my Vista machine and that has until next June before renewal but I'm putting Windows 7 on here as a dual boot and intend installing MSE on that, if everything works out OK I know I can then replace my NOD32 with it instead of paying for another years renewal.

i've been using MSE over the last few days.

i was using NOD 32 before.

since using MSE i noticed that files operations (copying, moving, deleting) is much faster under MSE.

that is enough for me to forget about NOD 32.

At the moment I am not in any position to recommend anyone to drop any of the major established AV solutions in favour of MSE.

The reason for this is simple - the product is new and to an extent not proven.

The reviews of the product, by people I respect the opinion of, and my own impressions so far would mean that I would recommend it to a client who is not running any AV and is unwilling or unable to pay for a solution.

I would recommend it over other free AV because of it's "fit and forget nature" even the likes of Avast a long time choice of mine must be re-licensed periodically, something that not everyone is willing or able to do

Agreed. Nobody has really put it through the wringer yet. It might not be very effective. But then again it might be. After all, we know how effective Widows Defender is compared to third party software.

I've never had a virus, but had my OS trashed three times in the past 20 years because of (1 ea.) McAfee, Norton, and Trend Micro. I need more protection from the "protectors", than from the bad guys. I'm now happily running MSE and Windows Firewall.

Actually, one test has been done so far. Microsoft Security Essentials did very well according to an article at CNET.
