I did just run a IBT tonight to see what's going on with this freshly delidded Core i5 K...

I have also redo my thermal paste "in & out" and seems to have gain 2°C on Core #2 and same for the Core #0. This added from the overall 3°C gain ?!?.

But i do have always that 7°C difference with Core #1 and Core #3.

Note that i'm actually using a 8,5W/mK non conductive Thermal Paste, which i'll change in a month or so for one 16W/mK nano aluminum.

I found back a thread i was reading two years ago when i bought my Core and they started talk about the heat issue and delidding: Removed the IHS from an Ivy Bridge i5 3570k , seeing the results the guy posted at that time did not encourage me to do it back then...

Let's say 102MHz is the safest to run. I did run for a big while at 103MHz BCLK my previous board H77 without issues (was using this actual unlocked Core "K" too).

Temps look good NoN, but then again you ain't really pushing much speed through the CPU. Is it a bad overclocker? At the voltage you are running I would have expected closer to 4.5GHz easy.

i'll do that higher very soon, actually i try to understand what's going on with the make in my way to mount or pasting the Die....

Looks i'm not the only one having this feeling when first delidding that Core, i'm in the process!

@Paul, my board (not enough phases) can't handle such low vCore and @4,5GHz have to be set to 1.25v min.

The order of Max temps on Cores was: 73°C, 82°C, 81°C, 75°C

I did yesterday quickly IBT @4.5GHz and i was below the 4.6 results Max: 68°C, 72°C, 73°C, 69°C.

Unfortunately, i got Bsod with memory management 5mns after the end of IBT as my vCore was low (kept 1.224v) and haven't prepare correctly to make it more stable, was quickly made for Temps purposes.

This lead me think something is going in the right way and thermal paste under IHS can be improved. ...Grabbing slowly but surely degrees...

But seriously who are still delidding Ivy Bridge "K" series nowadays??

The order of Max temps on Cores was back in October 2013: 73°C, 82°C, 81°C, 75°C @4.6GHz.

Now i've got for @4.6GHz delidded : 65°C, 76°C, 78°C, 70°C after IBT run.

A slight improvement over the previous result with the same branded thermal paste i did used back at the time..

Ain't gonna Overclock more till i haven't change the thermal paste on Die for a better one....

Well, now i have for such find a high quality and at least 16W/mK thermal conductivity because of the IHS lower height on the Die. My actual is good one but 8.5W/mK

Artic MX-2 looks only 5.6W/mK!

Non, everyone on OCN swears by Cool Laboratory liquid Ultra, for the on die thermal Paste. It is basically liquid metal. When it dries, you won't be taking it off again. That's pretty much what you want, something that transfer's the heat from the die to the heat spreader, so your cooler can remove the heat. Personally, I would use liquid ultra on the die and Noctua NT-H1 on the top of the heat spreader. I have both and have used both. The only problem with the liquid ultra is when it dries, it is worse than Glue. But, being liquid metal does exactly what you want, transfers the heat off the die up to the heat spreader, which is why you de lidded. It wasn't doing that. If the heat never reaches the heat spreader, there is nothing you can do to remove the heat from the die.

Readed also about that Liquid Pro/Ultra...

I might not apply this Thermal Liquid compound yet "on die" the time to find out what's the best for me. I thought more of something like high-end Nano grease or yes that Noctua that are quite equal in conductivity but against the layer that might just be thicker than the Liquid Pro.

Some use it on die for Liquid and take more of a grease for the cooler on top as you said. Liquid seems to let stain afterward...

Will use that on the die, the day i think the Processor could stay for very long without IHS being removed.

Core 2 Duo. You didn't say it had to be recent, and my E8500 clocked to 4.2 GHz (3.1 GHz stock) without any fuss.

If you're wanting something within the last 5 years, well then, I don't know.

Well the only problem I see in the Core2Duo, is I wanted to build a rig like that quite recently. The CPUs are pretty reasonable, but when I started looking for boards, I could by another z77 Maximus for what they wanted for those boards. A good Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge rig would cost about the same, unless you have a place where you could buy the boards for a cheap price. I would only build a core2Duo rig if I could get it cheap.

Posting news about Temps...

Those are getting devilishly lower with the TIM paste curing. I think I made the good choice delidding and my water cooling loop feels effective.

Delta room around 20°C today, running @4.4GHz-1.232v.

A day ago I have ran IBT @4.4GHz and a delta room of 22°C..Results were pretty encouraging and compare to today's delta is significant ratio.

One thing I do not fully understand is about "Cool Laboratory Pro/Ultra" Tim...

I went through a lot of reading at OCNet Delidded Club. Why some have their liquid dried up after fews months only on Die with their nickel plated IHS and some stays liquid for even a year??

If I ever use that one I want to be sure I can remove the IHS wihtout chipping the Die glass!!!!!

Yeah i know Steve it's good to see everyone again especially round the Holiday season

I been working a lot and Keeping my little one educated as she started her first year of school or Kindergarten ,so when i get home the wifey goes to work and i am left to take care of the rest i feel like a single Dad sometimes but what else would i be doing if i didn't have my Daughter probably something stupid lol

So i can't complain life is just too good to me right now
