Hello everyone. My USB's been with me for two years and it's 32GB flash drive but just this morning I can't open it. It has a name "Moonwalker" but now it appears as "Removable Disk" in My Computer and (again) I can't open it. I tried to format it today but it says "Please insert a disk to..". Look, most of my important files are inside it if I have to format it, first, I need to recover the files inside it. Please help me!

I love this flash drive so much because it's been with me for two years and I trusted it too much to keep my files secure but now it has a problem. I'm scared, I really need all the files inside it.:banghead:

There are two options available for you

1. Check the flash drive manufacturer's website to see whether there is a online flash drive recovery available and run it.

2. If no such recovery software is available, you have no option but try to format the drive and if successful try to recover data with PhotoRec or Recuva. You may also try Partition Recovery Wizard in Partition Wizard.

(Try to Quick Format - not a full format - it with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool 2.2.3 HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Free Download - Softpedia)

Check out the removal drive status from 'Disk Management' (Right click on 'My Computer' and choose manage). Most probably, it'll show the removal disk as RAW. Which means, you can't simply open it and access your files.

One of the best way to recover your files is to run advanced recovery software first and then go ahead with formatting the drive. Chances are pretty high if you perform recovery first instead of formatting. There are many recovery programs already available that may do the trick including PhotoRec and Recuva. However, I'd always prefer Stellar Phoenix recovery software because of easiness and extremely fast scanning.

As your drive is pretty big (32 GB), recovery software may takes time little longer than usual. So don't panic!!

Feel free to share your progress!!

My USB brand is CD-R King, little help to find one flash drive recovery online? :/

I just downloaded and installed Recuva a while ago but it can't detect my flash drive. I can't even format it and it always say "Please insert a disk..". I really need all the files in it.

Alright, I'll try Stellar Phoenix. Where can I download it? Please lead me to a link. :)

Most software will not recognise the flash drive in the present condition.

I have no objection for you to post the Windows Disk Management screenshot - which will probably show it as a blank - and also running any other Data Recovery software including Stellar Phoenix as suggested by alexgrossman. We and he will also learn what happens.:)

Your last option is trying to quick format it. If that is successful - note the word if - , the drive can be read and you can perform the data recovery with PhotoRec, Recuva etc., Not until then.

If the HP Tool fails to format - end of the road.

This is a very difficult problem to be resolved and only a handful were lucky to format and recover. Most failed. So take it as it comes.:D

If it is a hardware issue, unfortunately there is nothing we can do. You can still take the risk of trying to use the recovery tools provided by the previous comments here(Just to save your files). You can easily look for those tools using a search engine.

I sometimes record television video to a stick and pass it over to my wife to play on her laptop. Normally transfer as a TS file and then delete after finished, to reuse stick. A couple of years back, by mistake ,I recorded as DVD file. From the day it was erased the stick was seen as a DVD player with no disc. Tried for the better part of six months to repair, but no use. The stick is now landfill.
