Good Morning,
I could not find my answers using the search key.

I would like to run Outlook 2003 with Windows 7. When I click on my address book on the tool bar it open up Address book and it is empty. If I go to Contacts near the bottom left of outlook every thing is there.

#1 - How to get the address book to populate my contacts information.

#2 - Where is the *.PST file stored in Outlook 2003 on a Windows & machine?

#3 - The file folder Documents and Settings has a lock on it in Windows 7. How do I unlock this folder? I’m the Administrator on this machine; additionally Take Ownership did not allow me access.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

I usually go to file and then export to make a .pst from outlook 03. To get contacts backed up you have to hit the contacts button and back it up from there. This is from memory so if you need better instructions I will check it out at work on monday.

(I'm guessing the account is from another machine)

Then just import it the same way on the new machine.

Hi there
Outlook 2003 stores it by default in some really obscure folder - just search Hidden and system folders for *.pst

A much easier way is to download pfbackup.exe from microsoft - this backs up your ENTIRE email outlook folders to any folder you want - you can then using the maintenance function set a more accessible directory for your email stuff and then re-load your email from the backup.

Backup will be added to the file menu in outlook.

Note to get pfbackup.exe your version of Office will be "Validated". If it's not genuine / a torrent version then you won't get access to the download.

Cheers
jimbo

You cannot get access because it is not a real directory. You need to go to the "Users" directory. The old directory structure you were familiar with in Windows XP is gone.

PFbackup doesn't do anything more than Outlook's built-in backup utility.

To the OP, you shouldn't be searching for the .pst file, because you should be creating it yourself, by exporting whatever you want to save. You also have to be sure to include the folders you want. If Contacts aren't included, then they aren't going to be part of the import either.

If you export PST from within Outlook, only messages are stored. If you copy the PST while Outlook is closed, you get everything.

You can definitely export while Outlook is running and get everything. I've done this well over a hundred times. During the export process, there's a screen to choose what folders you want included, and that included calendars, contacts, notes, tasks, etc. I don't remember back to Outlook 2000, but Outlook XP, 2003, and 2007 all do this.
