Solved Everything is crashing? Chrome pages and games. What's up?

In post# 59, I provided a link to what I believe is your graphics card. I asked for confirmation.

DO NOT install the driver at this time. There are certain steps to install an NVidia card that ensure a good install and I haven't posted those steps yet.

Please reply to post # 59 - and post where things stand before proceeding.

Recap:
1) Run the machine with one memory stick (the good one)
2) Confirm where you got the Geoforce drive,
If I found the correct board, go ahead and download the driver, but do not install it yet.

3) Reply to the questions in post #59
4) Turn off overclocking if you overclock anything - set to the default values
I suspect the higher temps your reported very early in the thread might be caused by overclocking - but I don't know for certain. You, on the other hand know for certain. It might be in the thread - you've done a lot of things, but it's easier if you just lay it out for this old man ;)

Test the card with the current driver:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/330579-graphics-card-problems-diagnose.html

You're doing ok. It's a bit frustrating on both sides of your monitor, but if we have a method to this madness, it will go quicker. It will still take some time, but less time than trying to chase many things at one time.

Bill

@Jack: Yeah, I think we're spinning wheels here.

In my two most recent posts, 59 & 61, I'm trying to move off the memory tests and on to testing the graphics card.
NanoDice has one bad stick or one bad slot and we're not communicating well enough to determine which it is, so I suggest running in a known good slot with the one stick that didn't have any errors in any slots.

I saw the same exact error on an Nvidia card in a different thread just before jumping in here. The really odd thing is the 7zip reference in the error. The driver package I referenced is a self extracting exe - so why did two members get a 7zip error when trying to install? My guess is a bad driver from a bad site - but it's only a guess.

We'll get there - in good time. All we need to do is have a method for this madness ;)

Thanks,

Bill

Is RAM A the one you determined was bad before? I'm getting confused.
If I have followed your testing it seems to indicate that Slot 4 is questionable. If it was bad, both sticks would fail.
Yes, RAM A was the one that came up with 5 errors in 4 passes a few days ago.

I am a bit concerned that you are changing things (fresh install of Win8, updating BIOS,, trying to install the Nvidia driver) while trying to troubleshoot. The only way I can help is if the system stays in the same state and a component is tested. When that component, be it software or hardware is eliminated from the possible culprits, then another component can be tested.
Don't worry, the fresh install of Windows 8 was into a separate SSD I have. I have two SSDs, the main one is still running Windows 7. I hadn't installed the Nvidia driver either.

Here's what I'd do next - run with only one stick inserted in whatever slot the manual says to run a single stick. Use the stick that is not suspect.
I'm currently running a single stick of RAM on the first DDR slot, and yes the one with no problems from memtest of all slots (RAM B).

Please identify the page you downloaded the current installed driver.
Here's what I found, but I need you to confirm it is the correct page BEFORE you install it
GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - NVIDIA - PCI Express Solution - GeForce 900 Series - GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD (rev. 1.0/1.1) ?
+edit:
DO NOT INSTALL the driver it has been confirmed as the correct board AND a member request that you install it.
-edit
I downloaded the driver from this website NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce Game Ready Driver WHQL . I also tried updating the driver from NVIDIA Geforce Experience, which is the application I always use to update my video drivers (it comes with the package if you download from the above link).

Does the system BSOD or are you just getting application crashes?

The system DOES NOT BSOD. I'm just getting application crashes and hangs.
1. If multiple tabs on Google Chrome are opened, some pages would stop responding or crash, requiring a reload of the pages. Some pages could still work. However, sometimes the application crashes.
2. Mozilla Firefox typically crash entirely and asks if I want to Restart Firefox or Send a Report.
3. Not being able to properly install applications. Trying to install Google Chrome, for example, would stop at the "Installing" part. "Downloading" works fine.
- 3a This is true for the NVIDIA drivers - trying to update the video driver through NVIDIA Geforce Experience is impossible as it crashes during "Executing files" or "Installing".
- 3b However, I'm able to completely install an application if the installer comes with the option to "Retry" or "Abort" (typically seen when something goes wrong during install). Spamming the "Retry" button would allow the installer to go to progress a few percentage, same error message, "Retry", and it'd eventually go to completion.
- 3c I'm also unable to download games through Steam as the download would immediately stop after 1 second and an error message saying download is corrupt.
4. Some games would crash completely to desktop (Counterstrike: Global Offensive). Other games do not (Hawken). Both are ran through Steam. However, since today, I'm unable to run any games at all as it would immediately crash.
5. With only Chome and Steam running, Temperatures will be at around 31 C to 41 C. A fresh start of the computer sees a minimum of around 25 C before slowly increasing to a 31 C minimum. I think this is when applications start to crash, but I'll have to verify that again.
and ... is anything overclocked? Yes? - reset everything, including BIOS to defaults.
Nothing is overclocked.

In my post #66 please notice I have a check mark in the lower left corner circled.
Hide all Microsoft services.

Your cpu at times is getting to hot. Up into the 70C range.

A H100i should do batter than that if installed properly.

Did you use your browsers with no add on's?
The wrong add on's can kill download done properly.

You state when you open mutable Chrome pages you have problems.
How many pages is Multiple pages?

What search engine do you use?

Could put what case you are using in your system specs.

I would like you to use this program and post the results.

Hi, I did notice that my cpu temps are higher for an H100i. I wonder if part of the issue is the H100i itself since I got it as a refurbished model. I just took the H100i off and wiped the old thermal paste and added a layer of new one. It's still "overheating". I did notice that my temperatures were increasing before these problems started happening. Maybe it is an overheating issue?

As for my browser, I have extensions, but I've disabled all of them. I'm using a download manager to grab my downloads from the browser and it's worked fine.

What does mutable mean?

I normally use Yahoo.com . I have had to use yahoo.com a lot more recently because Google would not work for me. The pages would just appear blank.

Updated system specs

It means I made a mistake. (Multiple) I have corrected the mistake.
How many websites do you have open at one time?

Did you run AdwCleaner?

High temps can cause all kinds of problems. One of them can be throttling down.

When a certain temp is reached the system will back down (run slower) to reduce the heat to save itself.

I would fix the heat problem before doing anything else.

Yes, I know. I provided him with a link to the Nivida website for resolving that error for reinstalling the display driver.

But I was referring to Checking for Updates to see what drivers or other patches Win7 may want that might resolve the issue. There are often not just drivers, but patches critical to making hardware or software work correctly which are sometimes inexplicably queued as Optional.

So that's always something to check, and why I asked repeatedly if it had been done.

Apparently you haven't gotten to them yet, but it explains in Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7
that you don't need any of those freeloaders starting with Windows.

Hi, I've just unchecked all non-microsoft and Microsoft Security items in services and start-up. It didn't solve anything

So that's always something to check, and why I asked repeatedly if it had been done.

Also, I did check the website but I was unable to view it on my computer because the website is defaced. I tried updating the drivers through Nvidia Geforce Experience but it keeps stopping at Installing and then crashing.

Also, I don't mean to be rude, but I've already answered that question about Windows Update. There aren't anything queued. No updates of any kind except language packs.

I actually don't think it's a software issue since even a clean install of Windows 8 on a separate SSD was also crashing.

Thanks for the updated information.
I see a few things that need some attention to detail.
1) You told me that the current driver came from NVidia, I also asked you to confirm that I found the correct board on GIGABYTE

Here's what I found, but I need you to confirm it is the correct page BEFORE you install it
GIGABYTE - Graphics Card - NVIDIA - PCI Express Solution - GeForce 900 Series - GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD (rev. 1.0/1.1) ?
If it is the coorect graphics card, did you download the driver? It's ok if you didn't.
If I found the correct card and you didn't download the driver from the GIGABYTE site - go a head and download it
But the HOLD OFF on installing still stands.
You'll have to uninstall the current driver completely and install the other driver with certain settings.
As I said before, I think it's better if someone walks you through it step by step. There have been mis-steps and communication breakdowns that have slowed down a resolution. But we're chugging along...

Please post either that I did NOT find the right card or that you have downloaded the driver from the GIGABYTE site.
I asked a BSOD team member about the gamer version of the driver from NVidia and he suggested not using that driver. This was on a different thread a while ago. I forget why, but do remember asking and getting the answer.

2) The AdwCleaner report you posted only shows a scan, but not a clean - please post the clean log

3) The clean startup images shows you missed an important instruction Hide all Microsoft Service

Follow OPTION ONE in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Please also disable all items on the STARTUP tab

Please RESTART your machine after you've verified that the clean startup procedure has been done correctly.

Post screenshots of the MSCONFIG Services tab(hide MS stuff first) and the Startup tab

That's about it for catching me up.

Yes, that is the correct video card. I have just downloaded the driver but have not installed it. I have successfully removed the previous video driver including the provided HD audio driver and NVIDIA Geforce Experience. I also went in to C:/ and removed the NVIDIA folders.

Ok, great stuff. What's the one MS item in Startup?

Everything else looks good.

I'm going to take some time to look deeper into what AdwCleaner took care of.

While I do that, run this other utility and then restart

Restart your machine in case there are any system operations pending

Click here to download Old Timer-TFC.
>> save the application to your Desktop.
:info: Old Timer-TFC is a standalone application, there is no install.

:warn:Save your work and close all open windows.
TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!

Right click, run as administrator TFC

Click the Start button to begin the cleaning up temporary files and folders.
:warn: Do not work on other things while TFC is running - most applications use some sort of temporary files. Just let TFC run by itself on the machine until it completes.

:busted: If TFC prompts you to reboot, do so immediately.
:busted: If TFC does NOT prompt you, then reboot your machine immediately after TFC has completed.

It's 1:30 AM here and I was just about to hit the sack - I'll pick up with the new GIGABYTE driver tomorrow (later this morning).

Now that I know I pointed you to the correct driver and that you have it downloaded, I'll build the step-by-step instructions from the tutorial.

I'm wondering if you answered yes to remove software for the graphics card.

If not it will get reinstalled by Windows Device scan or when you restart.
What I'd like to see, before you install the river is a device manger showing the card at MS base driver levels.

Ok, I'm off to malware information services to check the AdwCleaner find and destroyed.
Then g'nite

Bill

Excuse me, but can you please show me exactly where you confirmed running Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) as I cannot find it in the thread, only you asking me how this is done after I'd posted the link twice.

I notice that in reporting back results of each Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7 you confirmed you had established a Clean Boot according to Step 7 but then the screenshots posted later showed this had not been done.

There are also other steps without response. In similar cases the skipped step is almost always the fix. In cases where there is close cooperation these issues are always (as in 100%) solved in thousands of cases I've helped with here.

You are making a real effort to cooperate but some things are being skipped, overlooked or misinterpreted.

What about the Repair Install which is Step 19 and seems indicated here once Bill's more in-depth hardware and infection testing are complete?

I would have no problems on my system deleting the things that AdwCleaner found. So that is what I recommend.

Could please just answer the post in proper sequence so we don't have to keep jumping back and forth to post #1.

I still don't know how many web pages you have open at one time.

Two things I'm trying to understand for now.

1. With the load you are putting on your system what ram is being used.

2. What temps your are having when the load is being put on the computer.

** If you could show this from your computer plus letting us know the temps when you have your computer under the load with your programs, web sites open ect.
