Hello and greetings to you all
I have some "problem" with my new PC and Windows 7 home premium x64, looking for some solution.

I have installed Win 7 home premium x64 about 2 month ago and my problem is - most of the times, when I turn on PC, get to welcome Windows screen and RIGHT AFTER there sould be startup sound typical to system, but for some reason (don't have a clue why) this sound almost always is delayed for me.

It looks like this, welcome screen, after this goes to desktop and icons loading from white blank files to actual icons, after about 5 seconds startup sound.

As you see sound is delayed for about 5-6 seconds, I know it is not normal, but can't figure out why.

Things I have done so far:
Scanned with Avast free and Windows Defender, no infections
Checked msconfig, i have normal startup and startup programs are:
-daemon tools lite
-x360 gamepad
-avast antivirus
-intel usb 3.0
-intel rapid store management (default set to delayed lauch, but without this installed at all I had same late startup sound)
-realtek sound driver
Also checked Win sound settings and startup sound is enabled there.

That's all, had also s#itty geforce experience with shadowplay but uninstalled this "optimization" tool.

What can cause this? Pc works fast besides this, overall boot time is about 40 sec. and it is also normal for HDD.

My PC specs should be in profile, just typed them during registration process.

Hi @belmont,

Not sure if I'm authorized to say this but Welcome to Win 7 forums.

You're saying your startup jingle is delayed or late. Delayed or late in comparison to what though?
This also seems a strange issue to be concerned by. Not criticizing, just . . . confused.

Is your computer doing strange things with sounds otherwise?

That said, you may as well try this:

Have you tried running a sfc/scannow to scan for and possibly repair any corrupted system files. Here's a link to a tutorial on how to do that if you haven't before : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

PlatypusKnight, thank you for welcoming :D

Well this startup sound *should* play as far as I know right after the WELCOME screen goes off and desktop shows with our icons, but for me (and also for my gf's laptop, running Win7 Ultimate) the sound most of the times gets late and starts about 4-5 seconds after desktop shows, is that normal or some king of performance slowdown/issue?
Maybe this could be related to avast antivirus use from startup, as we both use this?

PC works great beside this, no freezes, blank screens when opening folders, no hangs, restarts and bad things like that, also gaming performance is top notch from what the components could offer.

BTW, I had some small problem after uninstalling geforce experience - had this disabled from startup in msconfig and after uninstallation it did NOT vanished from msconfig, was still there disabled, so I had to reinstall as clean whole nvidia driver and just after this uninstall geforce experience from control panel, now I don't have this remains in msconfig :)

I am particularly biased against avast, but I do think that your issue results from the initialization of your Anti-virus/ system protection.

No need to worry yourself. Given that you report that your system runs fine otherwise, I don't think you have a problem at all. This is just an indication that Avast is working as it should.

Hello and greetings to you all
Checked msconfig, i have normal startup and startup programs are:
-daemon tools lite
-avast antivirus

I would suggest you remove deamon tools lite as it is known to cause issues, but you are apparently experiencing no ill-effects. Other than that happy computing to both you and your girlfriend.

This late sound occurs rather randomily, sometimes it is,like mentioned above and sometimes not - sound plays perfectly synced with showing destop right after WELCOME screen.

Could this be because of quite lots of used HDD space? I have 1tb drive and 500+gb are already taken, also I have 21 games installed and 35 icons on desktop, posting this cause I heard that many icons can actually prelong startup.

BTW, my system protection is both avast 2015 and windows defender.

You won't usually notice any ill-effects of low hard drive space until windows explorer (Win key + E) starts displaying that drive in red. 500 gb is MORE than plenty space. And while many icons can prolong startup, I've never seen a situation where it would prolong startup more than a second or two. Nothing to worry about at all.

BTW, my system protection is both avast 2015 and windows defender.

This is more troubling. If you're using Avast, you probably don't need Windows Defender running in the background. I don't know much about Avast, but to the best of my understanding Avast handles spyware as well. Running multiple spyware programs can lead to system slowdown as they compete with each other to do the same job (or mistake the other scanner for malware). I know Defender is written to minimize these issues, but I would disable it just the same.

On the other hand, Defender is designed to be off unless the user absolutely needs it or intentionally turns it on. I suspect, that it's not on, on your system. Can you post a screenshot so I can see for sure?
Click the [Start] menu, start typing "action center" and click [Action Center]when it shows up.
There should be an arrow pointing down beside [Security]. Please click that arrow to reveal the hidden list, take a screenshot of that window, and post here.

Ok. I'm going to take a look at your startup process, and your system in general. Please follow these procedures:

1. Open CCleaner, Click [Tools] and then [Startup].
Please screenshot the [Windows], [Internet Explorer] and [Scheduled Tasks] tabs and post them here.

2. Please download and install Belarc Advisor from here: Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit, for software, hardware and security configuration information on your computer. Software license management, IT asset management, cyber security audits, and more.
Allow Belarc to check the internet for new definitions and to Analyze your computer.
If Belarc crashes run it again and grant it administrator permissions

3. Belarc will open a browser window displaying the results
Note the name of the file in the url box at the top of the browser

4. Navigate to the location displayed in your browser's url box in Windows Explorer (That location is usually C:/Program Files (x86)/Belarc/BelarcAdvisor/System/tmp/)

5. Upload the html file that bears your computer's name. (On my computer that is Platypus-PC.html)

I have one Windows 7 system that does that. It the mouse loading a little slow. I don't know why it does it and haven't figured out how to fix it. It takes about 3 sec and the little sound happens and the mouse works. I have tried the dongle in usb 2.0 and 3.0.

One the same computer but booting into W-10 ssd (hot swap) and it doesn't happen.

@belmont here's another post from one of our senior members saying that there's nothing wrong with your system
You don't have to go the diagnostic route.

That being said, if you really want to go down that road, I'll walk with you. :)

Yeah it seems to be randomily appearing sometimes but isn't any defect at all, I tried hdtune benchmark on my HDD to confirm it is working fine and fast and result were good, no problems at all, so I think we can just close this thread, thank you guys for feedback, much appreciated! :)
