Laptop taking 10+ minutes to start up, constant blackscreen

My best friends laptop has been taking 10+ minutes to start up the past couple days, always in a constant black screen with the cursor sometimes appearing, but never moving. Unsure of what may be causing the issue.

Here are the computer specs, will provide any more information if needed:

Now the black screen is no longer happening, but all programs are becoming constantly unresponsive.

if its taking that long to start up; which it shouldnt. i would give it a thorough cleaning for malware, spyware, and adware. Those 3 things when they infect the system can cause the system to slow way way down. I would scan for those 3 things; download, install, and run the following programs from the following links:

Downloading AdwCleaner

SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloading File

https://www.malwarebytes.org/mwb-download/

Then; once you do that; I would also do a disk defrag. Click start, programs, accessories, system tools, then disk defragmenter and let that run. Give these steps a shot and see if it helps resolve the issue(s).

Just a quick note. I see the laptop has a SSD, so do NOT defrag that. SSDs should not be defragged.

Followed the suggested and did not see any improvements apart from the fact the cursor is now no longer having an issue.

No issues in safe mode.

Hmmm. . .

If the machine is booting into safe mode and you experience no issues it almost certainly has to be an image issue.

Perhaps a recent Windows update introduced a conflict.
