Choice in SSD

Hi,
I wanted to pick a nice SSD for me, but i don't know which one has the right firmware upgrade, so it won't slow down.
My budget is 500 U$, and i would like it to have over 128 GB - 256 GB

It also allows you to do firmware updates on the drive, and has the TRIM software to install with it.

I'd LOVE to have this SSD, but unfortunately, since our president is an idiot, i would have to pay over 200% of the price on taxes to get this product from Newegg, and since Newegg is the only one that has TorqX for a Nice price, i think i am doomed

I was looking, in ebay there is a way i can get 2 Intel x25Ms for 500 Dollars, so i would configure it in Raid 0. In raid 0 it adds up right?
So it would be like, 500 MB/s Read. and 140 Mb/s Write?
Is Writing really important?

No, the max write/read speeds to not change. You are just more likely to reach them using RAID 0. In RAID 0, the drive sizes add up instead.

Although Raid will give you an extra push in performance, it would be ashame to prostitute SSDs for that. The SSD by itself is faster than you need - why apply a complex and pretty unsafe (Raid0) technology that was designed for spinning disks.
I recommend the OCZ Vertex or the Intel X25. Both support Trim which is an important feature to have. Those in conjunction with Win7 (which also supports Trim) will be unbeatable.
The earlier advice to check into the OCZ forum is good. I learned most of the stuff there and was halfway up to speed before I bought my Vertex.

This IS a good choice. It's the same drive as the OCZ vertex but has a 10 year warranty. I have one. I would not change the decision.

I'm running the Intel X25-M 80GB Gen2. While that seems small to most people, I also have a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black in the box for storage. With hibernation disabled, my pagefile on the WD and system recovery set to only consume 2% of my drive, after installing Win7 64-bit Ultimate, with all apps that I use and a couple of games (Wolfenstein and Crysis), I have more than 50GB free.

I love my Intel drive and would recommend it to anyone. I see they are down to $249 in many places now...so getting more affordable everyday.

Do you actually need a 256GB drive? You aren't going to find one of the higher performing drives at t his capacity on your budget.

These drives are great for high performance, but too costly for data storage. So, why not go with a smaller OS and app drive and use a standard hard drive for data storage?
