I think maybe it's time for some updates on our overclocks. My 3570K has been at 4.5GHz for going on 3 years without a hitch Still idles in the mid 20's and under load tops out at around 60*C. All that crazy voltage to hit 5GHz didn't seem to hurt it a bit!

No. It could be but what's the point? I run 4.6 daily. I have run that daily for about a week but didn't notice any difference, so set it back to 4.6. I think Ivy Bridge reaches it's peak efficiency around 4.5. Anything over that is just for show.

I run my system 100% 4.6xx all the time. Idle, under load or what ever with out a lot of volts. (bios 1.3V) Runs very cool all the time. Seem to me every system has it's sweet spot. You just have to find it.

I think beginners in over clocking just don't spend the time learning before they jump into over clocking. When they have stock cooling and post a question; how do I over clock. Well with a little homework they would of know one starts with better cooling.

Then they try setting things like Kelly or Steve and everything is going to be great. Most likely not. No two systems are the same. They don't want to spending any time on testing and learning.

This is not telling the over clockers on this forum anything new they don't already know. They have been there and done that.

This is for beginners who want to start over clocking.

Some things in my opinion you need to start over clocking will be.

1. Extra money for the proper hardware.
2. A lot of extra time to do the research needed.
3. A desire to do such a thing and be able to enjoy the color of BSOD; because you will get them when you do something your system doesn't like.
4. Don't over clock if you can't afford to buy hardware again. Bad things can happen.
I believe if these basic rules are followed just about anyone can enjoy over clocking.

Just remember if you make a toaster you and you alone are responsible.

Their are a few members here on this forum have made toasters and let the smoke out and got that funny smell. It can happen to the best.

I run at 4.5 as my daily, it is the sweet spot. I still run at 5 every now and then trying a benchmark or whatever. It was a fun time trying to see how fast it would go. And like Kelly said, it's still going after all those runs

A little birdie told me Steve stripped his spare rig down and now has a very capable i7 3770k gathering dust.

Who is with me in thinking he should go for number 1 spot with it! Better to go down (or up) in flames than die in a draw gathering dust!!

Very nice Doug. I think I hit 5Ghz on mine once but it needed a scary amount of voltage.

They say if you can't afford to replace it don't do it. Well I can't afford to replace this 6 core!
