Solved Windows 7 X64 USB installation - Is this a 'normal' delay time?

Every time I install Windows 7 X64 (or X86) from USB I get two unexplainable delays for no apparent reason and I wondered if this was normal or just my system?

OK, I boot up and the files are copied from the USB to the PC. Fine. Then there's at least a 5 minute delay before the language choice screen appears! Is that a normal delay time?

After choosing that, you get the 'Setup is starting' screen for yet another 5 minutes before the EULA licence appears and you choose what/where or whether you want to repair the PC screens. Again, is that the normal delay?

10 minutes of sitting around waiting for the screen to appear where you can repair/re-install the computer just seems ridiculous.

Thereafter, it only takes 15-20 minutes to do a completely fresh install, so that's fine too.

Anyone else experiencing these delays?

That doesn't normal to me but im not sure what would cause a delay like that, given that you rarely need to access that I guessing its not going to be a major problem though ?????

Just lately, I've had to reinstall/repair about 100+ times! (See my other thread), so big problem indeed.

However, I found the solution (to this problem, not my BSODs). If you disable the legacy Floppy Drive in the BIOS, then there's no delay at all. Woohoo.

Goodness knows why Windows takes 5 minutes or more to find that there ISN'T a floppy drive connected though?

I haven't had a floppy drive installed for years now.

The installation I've been having trouble with can't get past the sound / video driver stage unfortunately.

Have you tried entering Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation
to uninstall the drivers to see if it will complete install, then update them from desktop?

Clean Reinstall Windows 7 has the steps about drivers printed in red so they can't be missed.

It installs fine. It's the subsequent install of audio drivers or SATA drivers after Windows has booted that then causes a BSOD on boot that's the problem.

N.B. ONLY on Windows 7 X64. The same drivers work fine on a fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro. See my other thread for details.

Why do you need to install SATA drivers "subsequently" since the OS would not install if there were not SATA drivers for it in the installation media?

This is not XP but the first driver-complete OS in the installer and via Windows Update. Do not attempt to force drivers that Win7 may not want. Follow the steps in red in Clean Reinstall Windows 7

You can trace the audio drivers to be certain of the device make/model using Hardware Identification
if the drivers provided during install are not sufficient, or not provided. You can also if necessary trace from Device Manager - Finding Unknown Devices - Windows 7 Help Forums

If you have any further problems post back everything you've found about the drivers needed and we will find them for you.

The SATA drivers aren't needed per se. I just happened to note that installation of these ALSO caused a BSOD as well as sound drivers.

I had Win 7 X64 running fine for about 2 years. Now, I can't install hardly anything on it without it crashing on boot after a fresh install, and I have no idea WHY.

The drivers I've tried are from the Asus P5Q site. They cause a crash, so do all the other Realtek HD audio drivers which are much more up to date, whereas they ALL DIDN'T cause any crashes BEFORE.

Something has changed, but I don't know what.

The only major hardware change is a new graphics card about 2 months ago and a 1 TB WD hard drive to store data on.

Funnily enough there are two weird graphical anomalies. A whitish vertical tripe on the right of the display and a slightly darker stripe on the left.

If I take a screenshot though, those anomalies are not in the screenshot, so it's probably external? I need a GPU ram testing tool ideally.

I tried a Furmark stress test and it seems fine btw.
