SFC Scannow Error: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files

Hey everyone,

I have been experiencing a slow laptop recently. My laptop would freeze and then crash and sometimes I received the BSOD.

I ran tests to see for viruses and none were located. I also ran a CHKDSK and there was many files that were replaced.

But upon running a SFC /SCANNOW, the Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix them.

From reading various threads on this, I used tom982's advice and have attached the error log in a zip file.

Can anyone offer any assistance? After running the CHKDSK, my laptop has been running fine and I have not encountered any lags or my laptop freezing up again. Appreciate it!

How recently did you notice the problem? The easiest fix might be to do a System Restore to an earlier time.

You say that your laptop has been running fine again. So you are only now concerned about the sfc /scannow result?

My computer ran fine with the "corrupt files" result but for a different reason/problem I wanted to solve I decided to try a [url=http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html]Repair Install[/url] and that did the trick for me.

But maybe someone else will look at your cbs.rar and have an easier option. Repair Install takes your system back to whatever disc you might have (hopefully Service Pack 1 and not the original W7 release) so after do it you have dozens if not hundreds of Windows Updates to download and install again.

Yes, I'm only concerned about the sfc scannow. I think CHKDSK solved most of my problems.

I want to avoid the reinstall if possible so I welcome all suggestions in hopes of fixing my error files from the log.

FWIW I posted here about my own problems with sfc to no replies at all, but I will now bump your thread as maybe someone else will make a suggestion.

All I can suggest is that when I did a Find in your cbs for "corrupt" there were just four things listed. Maybe you can copy fresh ones in from another system, or recover them from a .iso.

I had the BSOD, but since my CHKDSK scan, I haven't gotten the BSOD since..I'm only concerned about the sfc scannow scan now.

If your laptop is currently working with no problems, and you leave it alone for now, at some point in the future if it develops another (different) problem then these corruptions may stymie your new attempts to fix.

Your car's engine may run just fine on old oil until you get rid of it. Or the engine may sieze-up owing to your lack of maintenance. Do you feel lucky...

So can anyone help read the log and tell me which files are corrupted? That way, I can try and replaced those corrupted files instead of a repair install..

Just open it with Notepad and Find the word 'corrupt'.

With regards to the repair install, do I lose all of my installed programs and files? Furthermore, will I lose my drivers as well? I have some dedicated Sony drivers that are not found from Windows Updates.

No. A repair install (there is a GREAT tutorial on it...can't grab the link atm) will preserve all your settings and drivers. (There are a few exceptions. Read the tutorial. It should not affect most users.)

My sfc/scannow thread has garnered no responses, so I'm about to do a repair install when I next get the chance (about a week).

The repair install is something I've done in the past. It is not difficult.

When I try the Repair Install, the installation crashes at the Gathering Programs and Files part.

Does this mean I need to clean install my laptop?

Where did you get Windows 7 from?
Is it a Microsoft DVD or some other media?

They are right follow the instructions on the BSOD tutorial and then one of the experts will help fix your problem.

Hello I recommend running the sfc, it is simple to do it causes no problems to your computer. Also when you run the sfc run it at least 3 times you want it to repair as much as possible.
