Hi All,
Have been fighting an issue with Windows Update not doing so with an error of 80070643 and no matter what I've tried it still won't update. I tried the install from the partition but still no update. So, since I don't have the OEM recovery disc and rather than keep wasting any more of my time I just want to do a clean install. I get a copy of the ISO and start an install and all seems to go well to the end when I get an error and the system reverts back to where I started. A call to MS says the system is locked out by the OEM (Lenovo) who I call for assistance. They of course want their greedy share and offer the reinstallation disc for $57. I have the CD Key so surely there's a way to unlock this thing.

Not a noob but getting a little feeble of the brain I think.

If the machine is reverting back to its original state then I assume you are not doing a true clean reinstall but attempting to reinstall from within windows.
I see no reason to buy software from Lenovo, I would try performing a clean reinstall as listed below but by booting from install media and starting from scratch instead of running installer from within OS

Hi Pauly and thank you for the quick reply.
Yes, you are correct, I did try to reinstall from inside of windows. I'm at work now but will try what you suggest as soon as I return home this evening. Will of course let you know how it goes.
Thanks Again

Pauly is correct that the steps you'll want to follow are in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 since you have factory OEM.

Be sure to read it over carefully so you understand it fully before starting.

You'll want to delete all partitions during the booted install, which is how an OS install is correctly done.

You'll also want the network driver you use in your backup so if it isn't provided during install you can quickly install it to get online, Enable hardware auto-updating via Windows Update (Steps 3 and 6) to Check for Updates, install all Important and Optional Updates which will deliver most drivers and patch your system.

Thanks Pauly and Gregrocker, got it up and running finally. Hardest part was finding a safe ISO of W7 Pro 64
