How to remove Windows 10 upgrade updates in Windows 7 and 8

Updated: added KB 3022345 to the list.
And highlighted updates that are only for Windows 8

• KB 3035583 - According to Microsoft, this update enables "additional capabilities for Windows Update notifications when new updates are available".
• KB 2952664 - Labeled a compatibility upgrade for upgrading Windows 7, its purpose is to "make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows".
• KB 2976978 - A compatibility update for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 which "performs diagnostics on the Windows system [..] to determine whether compatibility issues may be encountered when the latest Windows operating system is installed.
• KB 3021917 - Does the same as KB 2976978 but on Windows 7.
• KB 3044374 - This update for Windows 8.1 enables systems to upgrade from the current operating system to a later version of Windows.
• KB 2990214 - Does the same as KB 3044374 but on Windows 7.
• KB 3022345 - Update to enable the Diagnostics Tracking Service in Windows (Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1)

Do the following to check if an update is installed:

1. Tap on the Windows-key, type cmd and hit enter.
2. Type powershell and hit enter.
3. Use the command get-hotfix -id KB3035583 to find out whether the update is installed
4. To speed things up, query for all updates in a single command like this:
   get-hotfix -id KB3035583,KB2952664,KB2976978,KB3021917,KB3044374,KB2990214,KB3022345

You can use the command line to remove Windows Patches as well.

1. If you are still in Powershell type exit to leave.
2. Use the command wusa /uninstall /kb:2952664 to uninstall a patch

Just uninstall through windows updates, then hide the update when it shows up again.

Yep it's been a fun month or two but a couple of those updates have morphed at least for me Now showing a couple as Important instead of optional as originally did,
A couple even disappeared from the hide list and reappeared as Important is how I spotted them :/
Namely KB2990214 the other morphed to Recommended KB2952664

Originally the only recommended I ever showed was KB3035583 and I suppose ....1917 ?

Paranoia, perhaps. I'd like to know why MS is rolling them out now piecemeal. Why not offer the upgrade package when a user wants it? My guess is they are trolling for install information to see what impact there will be when a W7 user actually tries to upgrade to W10. It won't be me.

I don't want nothing telling me if I want to, or I should, or I could update my perfectly working Windows 7 to Windows 10.
That is why I have already remove them.

When and if I choose to use Windows 10 all I want to do is buy it, install it and use it.
I don't want Microsoft muching with my Windows 7 systems with Windows 10 B/S.

Luckily I found out testing instead of covering win-7 with a windows update,

I always expected to update win-8.1 but now that's not probably going to happen either the mother board is the same no matter which os is on it

Hmm that is a good point. Windows 10 has the same requirements of cpu 8 has which some older systems won't have. Wonder what happens if an average user tries to upgrade and cannot?

You seem a little angry about it. You could always just hit no when it offers and that is that. Just seems like more of an annoyance to go through and remove the updates when you can simply decline the 10 offer. Just my opinion.

I presume there'll be some form of Upgrade Advisor a la Windows 7, although I'd trust that as far as I could throw my rig. I could be wrong though.

Yep I have no clue I posted feedback about the issue since I couldn't using win-10t
I posted to a Microsoft website that I tripped on here,

But in the end I believe these updates now are just a new way to deliver win-10 to the masses but either way did the 7 upgrade advisor know about or send info about mother boards and would anyone test every mother board for compatibility

As far as the original bricking of hdd's everything seems calm as far as new reports
I have not tried again I got bricked well after the fix was sent out so was GregRocker
In both of our cases Hitachi were effected but I have no idea of what his mother boards were not able to sent the wake command ?

In the end it's a mother board issue not a hdd issue
I imagine my laptop might be compatible since it leans more towards the "Mobile" realm but personally from what I've seen of 10 there's just nothing there I like enough to replace win-7 with
I added a ssd to lappy and it's faster than ever so I'm not looking to go to 10 with either,

A new build possibly but I do have one win-7 64 bit license left for that build which I might do after a year or so builds are expensive os's are cheap compared
10 being free or not means nothing to me Clean installs are better anyway and No win-old folder on a ssd

My reason for uninstalling the updates was very simple - I had no Internet for about a week (thanks, Telekom) and then once I got back online there was a long list of updates to download. After downloading and restarting there was suddenly some new program, gmx something, that wanted to call home. I don't want any program to call home unless I know what its doing, so I uninstalled it. I certainly don't care about any OS upgrades, I don't install new OSs on old hardware. I never understood why would anyone want to do so.

I don't blame our large furry friend for being a little angry; heck I'm more than just a little angry. I don't appreciate anyone putting adware and sneakerware on my computer. The fact that it was M$ doing it doesn't make it any less odious, especially with the underhanded method M$ employed—adware deliberately disguised as a security update—to do so.

Acer WG43M Mobo not compatible how else would I know that 10tp's install sure didn't think it was incompatible

I don't see what that KB3021917 has to do with updating windows 10, the article I linked is a little confusing. However, with or without that update you can turn off or on the Windows Customer Experience Improvement Program.

1. In the Windows 7 or Windows 8 operating system, start the control panel and click Action Center > Change Action Center settings.

2. Click Customer Experience Improvement Program settings.
3. Select No or Yes click Save changes.

Nah, likely because I ran cleanmgr.exe as admin, removing the ability to uninstall updates after. A Guy
