I am in Window 7, Mozilla Firefox and have outlook/hotmail account. I do not have a mobile phone so cannot get email alerts/notifications but am wondering if there is a facility online to do this. I have heard that there can be a ringing sound when you get an email but am not sure whether this would be for outlook/hotmail. Or could there be another facility that shows up whilst online? If so, what do I need to do to put this in place/activate it? (If it involves money then I wouldn't be interested).

Ah I have hit a snag....I went with the email notifier (since it said it was for windows 7). However I didn't complete the download because it wanted to change my default page to Conduit Search Project and was twisting my arm about Bubbledock (some unwanted games) + it has pop up ads (a google search revealed)

I would go with the first link - Howard E-mail notifier except that it downloads to a zip file. My knowledge about zip files is that they are rendered inaccessible and I don't know how to undo that situation.

Help!!

Yeah I did not download them as I just keep one tab open for my email. I just did a Google search and that's what came up so can't say how they work or if they come with garbage with the download.

If it is a zip file then you would unzip it to a folder then go to folder and run the setup file

Ah I thought it was involved, but it would appear to be quite simple (did a google search). Unfortunately Howard e-mail involves lots of advert services which repel me.

SO.....I am still looking for another email notifier for windows 7 i.e. not Howard e-mail or email notifier (as above).
Feedback please?

Of course...that is why I found I needed to ask here. I am looking for one that is compatible with windows 7 so this forum seemed tailor made to ask this.

Ah yes. Sorry I don't mean to be picky but this is how the free download is described....

POP Peeper
offers a solution to set up and manage your many accounts from one place. Automatic Mail check is also enabled by default.

So it seems the automatic mail notifier/check is a sideshoot to its main thrust of managing many accounts...which I don't need. Thanks for providing the link anyway.

The only reasonable way to do what you want to is to set up your email in an email client application like for instance the free Windows Live Mail. You can download it here: Windows Essentials: Other Programs - Microsoft Windows
I'm glad you bring this up. I already have Windows Live Mail but it just seems like a duplicate for an already existing email account I have, i.e. do not see the point of it.

However, if Windows Live Mail can be used as an email notifier then I am interested. How do I go about instigating this facility within this programme?

The whole idea of an email client is to "duplicate" as you said your email. The client application downloads your email messages from the email server, for instance from Hotmail, Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo Mail and such and stores them to your local computer. You can then access (read) your emails using the client instead of going to for instance Outlook.com. You can reply and forward your emails from the client, and create new emails using it.

I use another commercial email client and cannot help you with Windows Live Mail but as far as I know it should automatically notify you about new messages. Of course it has to be up and running (on) to be able to notify you.

Thanks...I have done some experimenting and it would seem that I need to stay logged in to Windows Live Mail in order to receive an email notification. I do not like the idea of this since it does not feel secure. Does Windows Live Mail logged in still mean my hotmail account is NOT logged in? Is it possible to receive email notification without being logged in to anything?

I'm confused about your request. If you're online don't you get an Email Notification Sound now? If you're not online and don't have a smart phone to retrieve email, how did you expect to get notified?
