Yeah, I have HT off ATM so only 4 threads. This BIOS wont let me have it on without stability issues, gonna flash new BIOS later tonight and get my HT back hopefully

I wouldn't say it's really a no no on i7. But it's not easy.

While i'm here, i'll just leave you a little overclock, or something like that.

Anyone know if I can somehow overclock my Intel D945GTP board>???


I know I used to do this with a Abit or Asus board and with the intel board it shows the places I would normally reset, i.g. FSB, but these area's are grayed out.....

Just wondering if there was a work around!

I have had it at 4.5Ghz but I run every day at 3.8Ghz and I leave speed step on so it drops the multiplier when it doesn't need the extra power.

Thanks, yeah my chip seems to bench better than most others at the same speed, even E8400s. Not sure why. It actually beat an E8600 at 4.6 when it was at 4.4. Same everything. Maybe it's just burned in well, i don't know.

You can't overclock on any intel board. It's not possible.

That board you can't OC at all in the bios but you might be able to use SetFSB
& use the mobos PLL chip to raise the FSB speed on it to OC...
Just look though the list of supported PLL chips.

The only ones you can OC now in the bios are the Intel D975XBX (Badaxe) mobo's & up.
So yes, there are a few mobos that Intel puts out that supports OCing in the bios.
I'm using the D975XBX2 mobo aka Badaxe 2, but the i975X chipsets that are in these boards are not good overclockers at all & make you work for higher clock speeds to be stable even with a lot of voltage! ( I know, I've spent hours trying to OC this board higher without using a TON of voltage but it don't work)
Not to mention the i975X chipset don't support the 45nm processors, so no Wolfy's for this! RRRR which sucks...

I run my system 24/7 @ 3.30GHz with a E6700 at default vcore, but have had it up to 3.67GHz...not very stable though. :sarc:
And, while I'm at it my Vantage score running W7.

When I do finally have the money for another major upgrade it's going to be around the new Core i7 CPU's.

Wrong. There are no intel boards MADE for OCing. As you said, it sucks for it. It's not MADE for it. There's just a setting for overclocking. Thus, Intel boards are not overclockers. You can use SetFSB for any board but it's not recommended. Even the makers say it can be very dangerous. It also doesn't allow you to up your voltage, thus making it awful pointless because you can't get much of an OC anyway.

I did a modest overclock on my kentsfield q6600. From 2.4 to 3.0 ghz

So from a couple of threads i've kind of gathered that people are posting their highest clock achieved and not their highest stable clock. So if pi is acceptable as a proof can i post upto 3.8 on a Q66 even though prime fails in 10 secs or my liquid bottoms out and i reboot for safety reasons?

I'm getting that CPU. He OC'd to 6.4. I though that was those people who used liquid helium to OC. Nice though.

I wanted that whole setup. Phenom II, 4GB RAM, and HD 4870 X2. But i think I am going to opt for the GTX 295.

That's over kill though. What are you doing that you need 6.4, then only have 2GB of system RAM?

For stock voltage that's not bad. I can hit 3.58 on stock voltage. You should try for more, i bet you can do it. Just don't go above 1.3625v
