When you reserve, you can confirm your device is compatible with Windows 10. Between reservation and when your upgrade is ready, the files you need for the upgrade will be downloaded to your PC to make the final installation go more quickly. Then, when your upgrade is ready after July 29, 2015, you get a notification that lets you get started with your upgrade.
It's really funny, after years of putting all their strength and money into killing off the desktop (and failing miserably), now they emphase the desktop concept to push & sell w10. Good thing is, process has showed consumers and users still has some power :O)

Well, I guess I'll have to tell my family to be careful about this when using the computer because even though I do kind of like some parts of Windows 10, I'll have to wait and see what happens when it's released.
Edit: It seems to be rolling out for Windows 7 first as I don't see it yet on my Win8.1 laptop. Also, is it too late to possibly uninstall the updates?
Edit 2: Maybe it's because KB3035583 didn't get installed on my computer yet? I'll wait until it automatically installs on my PC.

What happens to those notifications, do they go dormant or does Microsoft issue a update to remove them for people that keep windows 7.
I am not ready to give up windows 7, mainly because of the dvd player.

I noticed if you are using windows 7 starter, you will be able to upgrade to windows 10 home. That would be good deal.
If you are using 8.1 student pro, you can upgrade to windows 10 pro. That would also be a good deal when you are no longer a student.
I also noticed no iso downloads unless I overlooked it.

I have done a clean install of Windows 7 using Dell re-installation disk (Dell sent me one). I also use Free Macrium reflect backup and restore.
This "life cycle of the device" which is the term Microsoft uses to describe how long the Windows 10 license will be valid and supported on a device is in my honest opinion self-explanatory, contains no hidden tin hat messages and needs no degree in rocket sciences to understand. As long as your device works, is alive and has Windows 10 installed, you will have a supported and serviced Windows 10 license on it.
Of course as Microsoft on almost daily basis makes it more and more difficult for the opponents to find any usable weapons to trash Windows, also this will be misused as a base for new conspiracy theories.

They were suppose to, but it doesn't look like that so far but I could of read that website wrong. You might need to reinstall windows 10 in the future.

Hopefully not too dumb of a question, but can you get in the queue and then decline the upgrade when it's available? I intend to dual-boot for a good long while until I'm convinced I should move on from W7. I also have started a new job and use my home systems for remote Citrix access and need to be VERY sure that is not going to be buggy.
Basically, I'm interested in the upgrade, (assuming it is one, and doesn't suffer from the same problems that irked people with the initial Win8 rollout), but I want to have the choice of installing it or not. By signing up now do I risk having it pushed as an automatic update with no chance to back out?
I am not familiar with this issue. What happens to things like Cyberlink PowerDVD with W10? I have a built-in Blu Ray player and do not want that to stop working. It's fussy enough as it is...

I'm not sure but I think it's a good bet that their are still people running Windows 8 not 8.1. So Microsoft is going to make them upgrade to 8.1 so they can then upgrade to 10? Not that it effects me personally.
